Mascara is meant to enhance our eyes and make them look more flirty and appealing, but is yours working hard enough for you? Here are four ways to get the most out of every tube, every application, every time.

Base coats, such as Urban Decay Subversion Lash Primer, not only add length to your lashes, but also lock in curl and condition them. Mascara glides on more smoothly and lasts longer without flaking, says Kelli Bartlett, head of makeup artistry atGLAMSQUAD.

Most women dip their wand too many times, which can dry out the mascara and waste product! Dip it once and swipe it on your lashes!

There's a key trick to fully covering each lash in one coat, says Bartlett: Bump the wand against the base of the top lashes, roll it forward and wiggle it up and through the rest of the lashes! When applying mascara to bottom lashes, use light, pressing motions.

Don't overdo it with your mascara coats, as that can cause your mascara to get clumpy and your lashes to stick together.
