Chic & Sophisticated Marquee Wedding in Northern Ireland

Chic & Sophisticated Marquee Wedding in Northern Ireland

via

This afternoon's wedding is a real contrast from earlier today. A classic affair with monochrome colours and a chic style.

Elizabeth and John were married on the 23rd August 2014 at the Drenagh Estate in Northern Ireland. They hoped to achieve a wedding which was personal to them, planning from England where they live.

I adore Elizabeth's amazing 'Kelly' by Stephanie Allin gown which she teamed with quiff up do and red nails and lips. Stunning! The bridesmaids wore mismatched black frocks with baby breath bouquets and John donned sharp grey suit.

Thanks so much to Paula Gillespie for providing these lovely images.

THE PROPOSAL | John proposed to Liz at home in their house, having hidden the ring in his car. Amazingly this was the very same day that Liz's brother proposed to his girlfriend so it was quite a busy time for everyone! (John's brother Michael is also getting married in April).

THE VISION | We wanted our day to be personal to us and a celebration of our marriage and our families.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We both live in England so planning the wedding involved quite a few trips to Liz's parents' apartment in Portstewart and a lot of emails and phone calls admirably assisted by Liz's mum Anne.

THE VENUE | Drenagh Estate, Limavady. Our ceremony was in the moon garden followed by the reception in the marquee in the grounds of the estate.

Although we live together in England and our parents live in England Liz's family is originally from N Ireland and we had spent time along the north coast where Liz's parents have a flat. It was brilliant that everyone made the effort to come across to Northern Ireland for the wedding, there were lots of Giants Causeway selfies on facebook that weekend.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The dress was bought from 'The Bride' in St Albans, Hertfordshire, it was called 'Kelly' and made by Stephanie Allin. The earrings and bracelet were bought from Dream Weddings Bridal Boutique in Coleraine. Hair was done by Jo from Hairoscope salon in Coleraine.

FINDING THE DRESS | Liz went on one shopping trip in St Albans (where we live) with her mum, John's mum and Laura, one of the bridesmaids. It was the first dress that Liz tried on in the second shop they visited and the decision was made.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | John wore a grey suit from TM Lewin.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Ulster String Quartet accompanied Liz and her Dad down the aisle. The readings were read by Liz's brother and our friend Rich both were poems: one by Seamus Heaney and one by Carol Ann Duffy. We sang the Beatles, and "Make me a channel of your peace".

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Liz had five bridesmaids (Laura, Eve, Natalie, Katie - friends from University; and Lucie - friend from school) plus one maid of honour (Suzie). They all wore dresses made by Alfred Sung in different styles, with pink ribbon belts made by Katie and her mum.

THE FLOWERS | The flowers were by Victoria from Tortraits floral design who also created a sketch of the moon garden for our order of service for us.

THE CAKE | The cake was a Colin the caterpillar cake from Marks and Spencers, each table had their own cake plus one giant cake in the centre. John and his brother have been bought a Colin cake every year for their birthdays since they were little so we chose to keep this tradition!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Paula Gillespie who we chose because we had seen her photographs of another wedding at Drenagh and loved her style of photography.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | The Wedding Room dressed the marquee for us with candelabras and vases for Victoria's flowers. Victoria from the Wedding Room also worked with Victoria from Tortraits to bring trees decorated with fairy lights into the marquee for us. We hung poems from the trees and put books on the tables along with photographs of the weddings of our guests.

THE HONEYMOON | We drove down to Kenmare and stayed there for a week; we are off to Singapore in February.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The whole day! Plus Liz walking across the grass to the moon garden wearing Paula's wellies; John and his dad and brother singing an Irish blessing after dinner.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Make time to enjoy your day.
