Our offbeat wedding at a glance:
Since we were married on November 1st, Dia de los Muertos, our Mexican candy bar doubled as an altar dedicated to those family members who had passed. I had pictures of them along with their favorite candies. We decided to continue that theme in our cake, colors, and papel picado decor.

Tell us about the ceremony:
Our ceremony was performed by an ordained cousin of David's, and we wrote our own vows. We also wrote vows to his 13-year-old old daughter to include her in our union. We had my father pray over our family and before dinner.

Our biggest challenge:
Our biggest challenge was me getting to the wedding on time. We were an hour late, since beauty takes time! the limo service was on a strict schedule so we weren't able to go take pictures where we had planned. However, behind our venue was some amazing graffiti art which worked out perfectly as an impromptu backdrop.

My favorite moment:
The most meaningful moments were the reading of our vows to each other and to David's daughter. Also, the very honest, funny, and sentimental speeches given by his two best men and my maid of honor were amazing.

My funniest moment:
Our venue was at an artist loft in Downtown Los Angeles. All the art work was left up, which we loved, except for a very large naked green demon. It was definitely the conversation of the night.

What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding?
My most important lesson was regardless how many hours I spent planning timeline, the wedding just had a mind of its own. I really tried to have a very stress-free day and not worry about anything. This ended up being the best goal I made considering how overly organized it was.
