Your Ultimate Guide to Marsala Lips

Your Ultimate Guide to Marsala Lips

Marsala, Pantone's Color of the Year for 2015, is a dusty burgundy with a touch of plum - which means it's an obvious choice for wearing on the lips, regardless of skin tone or hair color.

Lipsticks in this range provide both intensity and that pop of color we love in a red lip, but they lean a bit more toward neutral, due to marsala's earthy brown characteristic. Some can be delightfully reminiscent of those popular 1990s, dark-neutral lips. To recreate that look, go for a shade like L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche Collection Exclusive in Jennifer's Nude or Giorgio Armani Rouge D'Armani Lipstick in 202 with a lip liner like NYX Cosmetics Jumbo Lip Pencil in Burgundy.

A beautiful way to update this look is with a more pigmented matte finish, like that in YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats in Grenat Satisfaction. For a less bold look, wear this color in a sheer gloss, like Lancôme Gloss in Love in Gem N Glam, or with iridescent flecks of gold and amber. Try something like NYX Cosmetics Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Copper Penny.

A bonus of this color is that it pairs well with a range of cheek and eye colors. Try a pink pop of color on cheeks, gray tones on eyes, or olive and khaki eye shadows. Want all these colors in one palette? Try Urban Decay Naked on the Run!
