Blissful & Pretty Summers Day Love Fest Wedding

Blissful & Pretty Summers Day Love Fest Wedding

via

You may remember Kayleigh and Andrew from when I featured their sweet engagement shoot back in July. Well they are back here today to share their utterly blissful summers day wedding.

I can almost feel the warm sunshine on my skin in these images, guests with their shoes off bathing in the light with lemonade in hand. It really was the perfect July wedding.

There were the most gorgeous blooms, pretty details and stylish attire too. With mismatched bridesmaids, a lace Allure Bridals dress and Andrew donning a dapper waistcoat.

Thanks goes to the brilliant Gemma Williams Photography for sharing her photographs this morning.

THE PROPOSAL | The proposal happened 18 months before the big day. We were enjoying Christmas morning together in our little cottage, just us and our little cat, Cariad. We were rushing through opening our presents as we were heading straight down to see Andrew's family in West Wales, to have Christmas lunch and wanted to call in to see my parents and family on our way. I was rushing around the bedroom trying to pack and get ready when I turned around, (still dressed in my Christmas tartan PJs and my hair wrapped up in a towel) and there was Andrew down on one knee in front of me holding a little black box which contained the ring I'd fallen in love with in a shop window at a jewellers in Weymouth that summer. He asked me to marry him and when I said yes, looking in disbelief at THE ring, he said it was the one I'd spotted all those months ago. He had ordered it sneakily when we got home and it had arrived in October. He'd been waiting two months for the right moment.

THE VISION | I'd always dreamed of having a summer wedding, possibly somewhere abroad, like Italy, as we both love late summer evenings, having a glass of wine, BBQing and chilling out outdoors. We were after something that would feel relaxed and informal that would help us and our guests totally unwind and feel at home. We knew we needed to find a venue that would provide this sort of atmosphere and so opted for Glangrwyney Court in Crickhowell and set the date as the 25th July, praying that we would have some sun (which is usually highly unlikely during the British summertime). We decided that we would call our wedding 'K&A's Love Fest'!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | The plans began the day we visited the venue in Crickhowell, two weeks after Christmas. We just fell in love with the place, although it was during the middle of winter, but could see how it would look and feel in the height of summer.

We then took our parents along who agreed that they loved it just as much as us, so everything then fell into action. We booked our caterers, Sugarloaf Catering who were recommended by the wedding venue, went to see a band play at a pub in Abergavenny one evening called, The Black Rat Effect, who were amazing. Everyone there was dancing and having such a good time we booked them there and then.

We also overheard a man singing and playing an acoustic guitar sitting in the bar, his name was Jim Ramsey and he was so good we asked him there and then if he would play during our drinks Reception. From then on the plans continued, booking the wedding cars, photographer, finding the dress and sorting the invitations and wedding stationery. We did change our minds last minute and decided to get married in a church, the same place where my mum and dad got married 32 years previously. Andrew was very happy to do this as he knew that the church held many happy memories for me.

THE VENUE | Glangrwyney Court, Crickhowell is a beautiful, small but grand manor house, situated in lush, green grounds, blooming with every flower you could imagine. Hidden behind the charming manor house, is the cutest barn conversion. An L- shaped barn, quirky, with exposed beams and a huge wood burning stove, a hayloft and courtyard. We spent ages walking around the buildings and gardens, finding so many hidden spots and nooks and crannies and talking about possible set ups for the day. We decided on having a drinks reception and canapés on the lawn and gardens of the manor house, with a few lawn games and hay bales, only then for guests to walk through the walled arch into the pretty courtyard to explore the barn ready for the wedding breakfast. The weather was absolutely beautiful (and boiling - it was the hottest day of the year!), so all of our guests kicked off their shoes, grabbed some pink lemonade or summer punch and relaxed. Shortly after the wedding breakfast, all of our guests naturally returned to the lawn, chatting, snoozing in the sun, getting drinks and seemed to be having a lovely time. It was my favourite part of the day, the atmosphere was so chilled out and happy. We took a few moments to look around and soak it all up.

Andrew is a carpenter, so spent a few evenings with my dad, building some stalls to serve our drinks from and for a sweet stall and photobooth. Once they were painted in the pastel wedding colours they really did look the part! The venue really was perfect for us as we only had 70 guests so everyone fitted in snugly and sat on long, banquet style tables, getting up to help themselves to BBQ food.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I visited quite a few wedding stores near my home and in Cardiff central and thought I'd found the one. I left it to think about for a few months, but during a shopping trip one day in Cardiff I spotted a little shop upstairs in one of the arcades called Timeless Elegance. I hadn't booked an appointment as it was completely by chance that we spotted the shop, so went on up to have a browse. Before I knew it, the lovely lady in the shop had pulled out a cap-sleeved, full lace, slim fitting wedding dress and said it would be "perfect" for me. I had hoped for a sweetheart neckline and hadn't considered, or seen, a dress like this one. It was designed by Allure bridal and had a light coffee coloured silk underdress, with the ivory lace dress over the top. Once I tried it on I completely fell in love. My sister loved it too and I knew immediately it was the one. I opted for a lace edged veil to go with the dress and bought light powder blue, peep toe shoes as my something blue. I had tried on a vintage style belt with the dress, but kept changing my mind. Two before the wedding I rang the store and thankfully they had one left in stock so I had my Grandad pick it up, who by chance happened to be in Cardiff that day! I bought some vintage style earrings in John Lewis that matched my engagement ring and as I got to the till I found out they had 50% off. I was very lucky with all of the bargains I found! Andrew bought me a beautiful pearl bracelet from Tiffany, which one of the girls surprised me with on the morning of the wedding. I felt that was all I needed to accessorise as the dress had so much detail by itself.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Andrew hired a dark grey suit from Dyfed Menswear and matching suits for the groomsmen and pageboys Elis and Lennon. He wore some vintage cuff links, left to him by his late father. He opted for a light coffee coloured tie (which matched my dress, phew!) and chose two light avocado and two dusky pink coloured ties for his groomsmen. He went for the three piece suit, finished off with a classic, crisp white shirt. For a giggle, he bought his groomsmen bright, wacky coloured socks to wear on the day for multiple photo opportunities!

THE READINGS & MUSIC | The church ceremony was quite a family affair. Andrew's sister Nickola played the piano for us to walk in and out of the church and to sign the register. We walked in to a piano version of "I'll Be There" by the Jackson 5 and walked out to a piano version of "Marry You" by Bruno Mars. Andrew is a fluent Welsh speaker as is his family so we thought it would be right to have a good mixture of English and Welsh. We sang Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer and a welsh hymn, Calon Lan. Our niece and nephew, Elis (9) and Erin (7) read an adapted version of Corinthians 13 in both Welsh and English. They did a fantastic job, we were really proud of them.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had 5 bridesmaids and one flower girl. I decided right from the beginning of the planning process that it would be nice to be a little different and dress the girls in a range of styles and colours. I stuck to a palette of colours that we chose for the wedding which were dusky pink, mint green and ivory then we hunted for dresses to suit the girls' personalities as well as shapes. Firstly, I found my friend Shim's dress. A dark dusky pink, tiered lace midi dress from Miss Selfridge, which complemented her gorgeous skin tone. My sister, Danielle, is a lover of all things traditional and as maid of honour I opted for a floor length, chiffon, mint green dress designed by Julian McDonald. Next I spotted a fun, pretty, quirky dress that had a tutu style skirt for our 16 year old niece Georgia as well from Miss Selfridge, which I knew she'd love. Lastly, I visited the Coast sale and found an elegant, simple, soft light pink dress for Hayley and a fun, fabulous, full, Carrie Bradshaw-esqe tutu style skirt for Andrew's sister Jacqueline, which she teamed with an ivory strapless top and her bespoke, lace detailed bolero which she wore on her wedding day. I spotted a little ivory dress in Monsoon for my flower girl, Erin. It had capped sleeves and embroidery and was so pretty. The girls were happy to buy their own shoes, which saved a lot of expense and Andrew's other sister Samantha is a hairdresser so agreed to do the girls' hair on the day. They looked stunning. I hadn't seen all of the girls in their dresses together until the day, so it was a little risky, but I think it paid off and I love looking at photographs of my beautiful bridesmaids now.

THE FLOWERS| I decided on simple, white gypsophilia bouquets for the girls and a pink bouquet for Erin. I just wanted a mix of colours and flowers in my bouquet, plenty of green and bits and bobs popping out all over the place, rather than a neatly packed bouquet. Andrew's sister Jacqueline, as a designer, has a good eye for detail so she set to work creating the bouquets the day before the wedding, they looked so professional. Andrew's mum and sisters put the flowers together, bought from a wholesalers in Pembrokeshire, in a range of bottles, vintage vases and decorated jars. We chose soft pinks, creams and white and the effect was beautiful.

THE CAKE | We opted for a summery strawberry, three tiered, Victoria sponge cake, decorated with fresh berries, which was lovingly made by a lady from the catering company. My lovely nan made a miniature 'just married' bunting and my mum bought a little bride and groom from a cute shop in the town where we live to place on the top. It was a lovely surprise. We were planning to cut the cake after the wedding breakfast and serve as our dessert. As it happens, it was so hot, we had to cut the cake before we ate as it began to melt and slide!! (Luckily the caterers made extra that was stored in the fridge!)

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Our photographer was amazing and one of the best decisions we made. Her name is Gemma Williams and she is based in Hereford. I stumbled across her website one day during a rainy, wedding planning, Pinterest filled afternoon and was immediately in awe of her work. We got in touch and met up with Gemma and knew there and then after meeting her, that she was who we wanted to capture our special day. Her style is pretty, vintage, artistic and personal. She listened to what we had in mind and what style of wedding we wanted and seemed to really understand exactly what we would like. We arranged an engagement shoot with Gemma and decided to go to our venue for a pre-run! It was a great day and gave Andrew and myself some confidence and tips for being in front of the camera. Gemma was in touch constantly and after the wedding, quite quickly left us a sneak peek, which once we saw, couldn't wait to see more! Gemma was so enthusiastic and found little spots throughout the day where we visited during the late evening. I had told Gemma that, if it be a sunny day, I'd love to have some late afternoon/early evening pictures taken, just before the sun starts to set as it's my favourite time of the day. Gemma did just that and surpassed all of our expectations. We are currently trying to whittle down the choices to make a photobook or album, but it's proving difficult!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Everyone from friends to family were eager to join in and help with the wedding preparations. My talented dad made giant letters spelling LOVE and I don't know how he did it but they looked so vintage. We used these letters as a backdrop or giant prop for ourselves and guests to have photos taken and they worked so well with our theme as our 'Love Fest'. I scoured the sales and bought many pompoms, heart decorations, fairy lights, lanterns, mason jars, etc, we got both of my Nans saving their jam and chutney jars ready to decorate with lace and ribbon. My nan and Andrew's mum made metres and metres of bunting with beautiful material which we strung up across the courtyard to add to the summer festival theme. I collected old photographs from mine and Andrew's childhood and of our dear family members that sadly couldn't be with us and dotted these around the place. My dad made a chalk board from a bit of ply and chalk board paint, which I used for the order of the day board and wrote on using chalk pens (the pens are amazing!). We saved three red wine bottles, washed them out and glued the number 1, 5 and 10 on each bottle. We asked our guests to write a little memory, prediction or nice message for us and to choose the anniversary year (written on the bottle) that they would like us to open it on. We really can't wait to do this!

THE HONEYMOON | The day after the wedding the heat was still with us so we had a lovely family BBQ. The following day we headed to Bath to begin our Minimoon. We relaxed at the Bath Thermae Spa, which was one of our wedding gifts and then travelled down to St Ives, Cornwall for four nights. We stayed in a beautiful, cosy barn conversion called 'Lofty' which we booked through Unique Homestays. It was pure luxury and we really enjoyed champagne picnics, sleeping on the beach, driving along the coast and purely relaxing after all of the build up and the big day. It was much needed and nice to just drive a few hours down the country and take all of our gifts and cards with us to open once everything had sunk in.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | For me: taking a moment to stop and look around at that time of the day when the music was playing, everyone was relaxed and happy, the sun was shining and just about to go down and thinking how lucky we were to have had such a beautiful day with all of our wonderful friends and family. For Andrew: the speeches. Seeing everybody so happy and cracking up with laughter and reminiscing about old times.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Shop around. Don't pay full price for everything as there are bargains to be had. Enjoy EVERY single moment of the wedding planning process, no matter how stressful, as it's the only time you'll ever do it. Lastly, everyone told me to take a moment, step back, look around, etc. they were right. Really try to do that. It turns out that's my most memorable moment.
