To contour means "to define and balance the shape of the face," says makeup artist Andrew Sotomayor. While oval faces have natural definition, contouring helps to enhance that definition even more. Here's how to contour an oval-shaped face:
Sotomayor recommends Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Tough as Taupe to sculpt the face. "Blush is the worst thing you can use for contouring," he says, because you're trying to recreate the look of a shadow.
Apply With the Appropriate BrushA good brush, like a foundation brush, is important because it helps create dimension. You can also use a small blush brush and use small-sized brush strokes to get the right definition. Less is more: You need about two strokes on each cheek.
Focus on CheekbonesFor an oval-shaped face, the focus should be right underneath the cheekbones when applying the powder; take care not to go past the end of your brow.
Focus on the NoseApply a few strokes on the side of the nose as well for further definition, and you're good to go!
