What's Your Face Shape?

Contouring is all about shape, so before you can learn how to perfectly contour your face, you have to know what shape you've got. Figuring it out doesn't have to be as complicated as algebra, but it does help to embrace a bit of math (it'll be worth it!) to figure it out once and for all. Here are our tips for cracking the code on your face shape.

Get Your Measurements

Using a measuring tape, measure horizontally across your forehead, cheeks and jaw at their widest points. Then, measure the length of your face from forehead to chin, right down the center.

Your Face Shape

A heart-shaped faceis easy to spot because it's wider at the forehead and narrows down at the jaw. A square-shaped face is all about equality: The width of the forehead, cheekbones and jaw are nearly the same. You could also have a roundface if all your measurements are equal, but you'll notice rounded, gentle corners. Oval-shaped faces are very similar to round shapes, but are longer - and also happen to be the most versatile face shape.
