The Perfect Smoky Eye for Brown Eyes

I think we can all agree that the smoky eye is one of those classic looks that can never steer you wrong. This smudged shadow look always manages to take you from simple to sultry in just a few minutes. The beauty of a smoky eye is that it's super versatile and can be customized to compliment any eye color. Today, we're going to show you a fabulous smoky specifically for all you brown-eyed girls out there. We enlisted the help of makeup guru Tara Shakespeare to help us get a look that will make your brown peepers really pop!

Step 1. Cover lid with a soft cream shadow. Shakespeare used The Body Shop Colour Crush Eye Shadow in Oh, Honey.

Step 2. Use a matte white shadow (like NYX Hot Singles Eye Shadow in Whipped Cream) and apply to the inner corners of the eyes and under the brows.

Step 3. Using a fluffy brush, work a taupe brown shadow into the crease of the eye. To darken the color, sweep a deeper brown shade over the taupe. Try a brown palette like Maybelline Expertwear Eye Shadow Duos in Browntones.

Step 4. Dust a light, shimmery gold (Shakespeare used Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Easy Baked) onto the lid and blend it in well.

Step 5. Take your dark brown shadow and, using a liner brush, apply it along the upper and lower lash lines.

Step 6. Finish off by touching up the inner corners of the eyes with your white shadow.
