As one the most popular accessories for beach brides (and beach bridesmaids!), a spray tan is one of the simplest and safest beauty treatments that can totally transform your wedding day look. It slims, evens skin tone, hides imperfections, offsets a white or cream gown beautifully, makes your teeth look whiter and with the right tone, can also make your eyes and your makeup pop. If only every bridal accessory was so helpful! This is one beauty treatment that needs to be done properly however, so we decided to speak to our resident Wedding Spray Tan expert, the lovely Dany of Koh Samui Spray Tan for some professional advice. Dany gives us the lowdown on how to ensure a beautiful golden glow on your wedding day, from pre tan prep to post tan perfection.
Tip # 1 - A Body Scrub
Apply a full body scrub the night before, followed by a body moisturizer. Reapply your moisturiser in the morning, but be sure to apply it no later than one hour before your appointment. This will ensure your skin is as smooth as possible so that the tan will develop evenly and last for the maximum duration. Dany recommends a late afternoon appointment in tropical locations, when the temperature is cooler.
Tip #2 - Talcum Powder
Some areas can take longer to dry after your spray tan, such as behind your knees, elbows and underarms. A light dusting of talcum powder can help these areas to dry, and prevent the products from running or smudging.
Tip #3 - Loose Clothing
During the processing time (your spray tan professional will advise you how long) Dany recommends loose, comfortable clothes that will keep you cool and not rub. No tight underwear and if possible, no bra, as these can rub the tan off before it has a chance to develop. In the event that any colour does transfer to your clothes during the processing time, this will come off easily in the washing machine.
Tip #4 - Keep Cool
Heat is your biggest enemy during the processing time, so stay inside next to an air conditioner! Sweating can cause your tan to run, so try to avoid this at all costs. Take a few hours to watch a movie, read a magazine or just relax. As someone who's about to walk down the aisle, these moments will be few and far between! At the end of the processing time, you're free to shower and rise off the brown pigment. This is just to show your technician where they have sprayed, your new tan will show once you towel dry.
Tip #5 - Bask in Your Glorious, Golden Tan!
Time to admire that gorgeous creature in the mirror! Dany uses and recommends Black Magic Spray Tan, and with this product, there is NO danger in the tan coming of on your dress at all! The ingredient actually develops with the melanin of your own skin, so it becomes as natural as a real suntan, without the sun damage. And one final tip from Dany . . . always keep the talcum powder handy on your wedding day. In tropical, humid locations, powder yourself before you step into a tight fitting gown and it will be much easier to slip on.
Thanks Dany!!
