DIY Metallic Ombre Candles

DIY Metallic Ombre Candles

via

It's fair to say this DIY, from our Spring Style Tribe shoot, has to be one of my favourites to date. Who'd have thought a few candles and a can of spray paint could make something so pretty - and effective! The ombre trend may have been around a while, but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere soon, and metallics are red hot for 2015 (especially warm coppers thanks to Pantone's colour of the year, Marsala!) although you could use any colour you like to create the same effect!

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Candles of your choice. I used tapered dinner candles, but anything goes!
  • Metallic spray paint from any good DIY store or art shop (we used Antique Gold and Copper)
  • Candle holders (ours are from a selection at H&M Home)

METHOD:

First protect the area where you are going to paint - it goes everywhere! I find spraying inside a box helps contain the mess.

Holding the candle at the wick end, carefully spray from the centre of the candle down to the base in one smooth motion.

Repeat this while turning the candle to get the desired effect.

Immediately stand the candles upright in a secure container (old candlesticks you don't mind getting paint on are perfect). This means any excess paint drips down and won't ruin your hard work.

Once they are dry, display in your chosen candle holders and admire the results!

These would be a great way to add a luxe DIY touch to your wedding or party - or even a touch of glamour to your dining table, lounge or office!
