7 Tips for Being a Good Bridesmaid from "Bridesmaids"

You've all seen the movie Bridesmaids. The tea party bridal shower with the giant cookie, and Kristen Wiig's meltdown scene is the thing that sticks with me the most. Weddings can get extremely stressful for the wedding party, since a lot of the responsibility in making the bride feel special rests on them.

So here are some lessons we can learn about being the type of bridesmaid every bride dreams of.

1. Keep a positive attitude - Weddings are overwhelming. It's easy to start feeling like it's not even worth it, and it's just too much. Try to keep the big picture in mind, and a positive attitude. It's a happy day and even though feelings are sure to get stirred, keep working through them all the way to the finish line.

2. Don't be afraid to ask for help - Being a good bridesmaid is actually a lot of work. Sometimes it can get overwhelming, but don't be afraid to reach out to the other girls or family members for help. This will prevent you from having a breakdown in the car by yourself after every event.

3. Take responsibility for your part - Whether it's paying for your half, or jumping in to help plan things, every bridesmaid should be involved on some level. It doesn't mean you have to be irresponsible financially, but you should be involved on whatever level you are able to, even just as an emotional support.

4. Prepare financially - Being a bridesmaid is expensive, let's be honest. Between your dress, shoes, hair, makeup, bachelorette parties and hotels, it all adds up quickly. Try to plan ahead as much as possible, and save up in advance. But most important, be honest with your limits, otherwise you will end up resenting the whole experience.

5. Put your bride first - I know it can be easy to put your own taste into the plans as you're helping plan her bachelorette party. But remember to put the bride first and make sure she would love the plans, even if you don't.

6. Go the extra mile for your bride - You won't always feel like doing everything being a good bridesmaid requires, but it will mean so much to your bride that you were present, and showed excitement for her big day. Sometimes it may take some extra effort, but it will go a long way.

7. Don't forget to have fun! This is the most important thing to remember!
