Modern City Wedding - Polka Dot Bride

What happens when a couple wins a Polka Dot Bride competition? They end up with a modern city wedding that has the most incredible atmosphere with sweet delicious touches, an Eton mess bar, cascading florals, a wedding arch covered in trailing greenery and the most beautiful lighting. I am so excited to see the end result of this giveaway! Megan and Sam chose to capture their day with additional styling photos captured by Agent 86 Photography.

Megan tells the tale of how they came to be. "We met through friends in 2007. It all began late one night at a bar in the city then went on another date a week or two later and have been together ever since."

The groom chose a tuxedo from

Megan wore a custom gown from One Day Bridal "It was a fitted sequin full length gown, with a plunging sweet heart neckline. The bust featured invisible mesh fabric layered with beaded lace detail. When I started researching dress options, I turned to red carpet photos and fashion magazines for inspiration, as I felt I wanted more of a stylish gown rather than a traditional bridal look. During my research and shopping, I never really found the perfect dress, but there were many elements of dresses that I liked.

I was constantly drawn to sequins and loved the idea of an interesting neckline. Working with One Day Bridal I was able combine the design of two different dresses and add the beaded lace detailing, it was exactly what I had envisioned." Her bridesmaids wore black sequin gowns by Langhem Australia from Swish Clothing.

The beautiful floral arrangements on the day were created by

Megan and Sam chose Queens Hall, State Library of Victoria for their ceremony, noting, "We loved the a grand, heritage space in Melbourne's CBD." Megan walked down the aisle to "Sweet Disposition" by Temper Trap, played live by Tom Carty.

"My great uncle was our priest; it was very special to have him marry us. We were able to involve family and friends in the ceremony, including Sam's brother who played the guitar alongside Tom Carty during the signing of the registry."

Of their photographer, Megan tells, "We chose the talented Ed Sloane to capture their day. Ed is a freelance photographer from the Surf Coast of Victoria whose style is a mixture of action and art. Ed focuses on the surf and the ocean (but also captures the occasional incredible wedding)."

The couple chose the clean, industrial space of for their wedding reception.

Stylist Jane Lovejoy of Oh Perfect Day notes, "The day featured glam gold accents, luxurious marble, pops of bright 'radiant orchid' blooms and abundant, organic foliage. Modern and industrial met art deco in a wedding full of colour, contrast and personality. From a gold ceremony arch swathed in greenery to to brass candlesticks peeping through lush blooms, the wedding was filled with details and touches that reflected the couple's unique sense of style. Style elements included a dance floor surrounded by festoon lighting, hanging gold planters dripping with foliage, custom chalkboard art and Edison globes enclosed in gold cages strung up above the venue's impressive marble bar."

"We didn't have a wedding cake. Instead we served dessert via a 'DIY' Eaton Mess Bar. Our guests were able to help themselves to a choice of different fruits and toppings, in addition to the traditional meringue and cream. This dessert is a favourite amongst my extended family and the DIY element was a hit!"

"All were fantastic; we loved working with all our vendors. I really enjoyed all of the planning process, from working with our stylist, the dress making process, to choosing our menu and music. What I enjoyed the most was meeting and working with a number of small local businesses. The passion and talent of our suppliers was so impressive, all went above and beyond to help make our day special, and that made the process so enjoyable." Guests enjoyed a cocktail celebration with food by Hudsons Famous.

In lieu of traditional favors, the couple decided to make a donation. Megan remembers, "Instead of bonbonnieres we made a donation to Ronald McDonald House on behalf of our guests. This was in honour of Sam's cousin and close friend who lost his life to Leukaemia at a young age."

Congratulations on your marriage Megan and Sam! Thank you for sharing the story of your day with us! Thank you also to Oh Perfect Day, Ed Sloane and Agent 86 Photography for sharing today's wedding with us!
