How To: Milkmaid Braids

When you think "milkmaid braids," you probably envision a hippie running through a field in a flowy, white lace dress, right? Believe it or not, this hippie-inspired 'do is actually one of the chicest hairstyles to hit the fashion and beauty scenes these days. From runways and red carpets to weddings and dinner parties, we're literally seeing the braided crown everywhere. The beauty of this look is that it's clearly versatile and incredibly easy to do. We want you to master the milkmaid braids, so we enlisted the expertise of makeup and hair guru Marygene Rose to show us how to put together this pretty boho look.

Step 1: Part your hair down the middle into two sections. Pull each section into a pony so you have two long pigtails.

Step 2: Braid each pony and secure the braids with an elastic band. Pull at each braid so they're thick and loose.

Step 3: Pull each braid over and across the top of the head. The two should overlap. Tuck in the ends of the braids and secure the style with bobby pins. Finish by lightly spraying your 'do with hairspray to make sure it doesn't come undone.
