Retro Glam With a Modern Spin

While we're all about staying up-to-date on makeup trends, there are certain classic looks that will always hold a special place in our hearts. Such is the case with this retro glam look that takes us back to those Old Hollywood days when leading ladies like Ginger Rogers, Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn ruled the red carpet. There's something about those classic bright lips and lush waves that will forever catch our makeup-obsessed eyes. So, whenever you're in the mood to look like you're walking the red carpet (even if it's more like a trip to the grocery store) this timeless look created by makeup pro Marygene Rosehas got you covered! Now all you need is a ball gown and a string of pearls ...

Old Hollywood Waves

Step 1.
Start by creating a deep side part. Using a 1¾-inch wand or barrel, curl all the hair inward (toward your face) and immediately pin each section up until it cools down to retain its shape. Lightly mist the hair with a flexible-hold, brushable hairspray like Redken Fashion Work 12 Versatile Hairspray.

Step 2.
Once hair has completely cooled to the touch (this should take about 15 minutes), remove pins. Gently comb out the curls using a wide-tooth comb until they settle into waves. Give your hair another shot of hairspray and you're halfway to '40s glam!

Step 1.
Begin with primed skin and follow with a matte foundation formula, like L'Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation for a porcelain-like finish. Lightly contour around the forehead (near the hairline), along the cheekbones, jawline and down the sides of your nose. Blend well!

Step 2.
Buff a shimmery, taupe shadow like Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Easy Baked all over the lid and line your top and lower lash line with a kohl formula for added smolder. Make the top liner thick and wing out just slightly.

Step 3.
Ditch the classic red lip and go for more of an orangey tone. We use Giorgio Armani Ecstasy Lacquer in Tangerine for mega shine! Add on falsies to complete your glam look and you're ready to hit the red carpet!
