When seeking marriage advice, the Lauwers family is probably a pretty good resource. After all, the family is made up of eight siblings who have each been married to their spouses for more than 40 years.

According to Burnaby NOW, the marriages of the Lauwers siblings (which are all first marriages) range from 41 to 57 years. The family is originally from Burnaby in Canada.

One of the siblings, Nina Adams, has been married for 55 years. She told Burnaby NOW that though her marriage with her husband has faced obstacles, the hardships have proven to be beneficial.

"We ended up in a perfect compatible relationship, which we did not start with," she said. "Not everything has been wonderful, but I always found with each hurdle, we got stronger."

Fern Nikolai, the second-oldest of the Lauwers siblings, told The Huffington Post that her parents also faced tough times throughout their marriage. Watching them overcome obstacles set an important example for their kids, inspiring them to do the same in their relationships.

"They were in it for the long haul," she said. "As much as it would be easy to walk away, they were committed."

Fern's husband, Egon, partially credited his lasting marriage to the couple's faith and noted that he and his wife made "a commitment for life."

"Things are real rough sometimes when you get married. You have children, there's pressure," he told HuffPost. "But we always did overcome adversity by agreeing to solve the problems as they developed and not harbor any animosity with one another when things didn't go as well as we wanted."

Over the years, Fern and Egon have always wanted to "bring out the best in each other." For couples looking to do the same, Fern emphasized the importance of looking out for your partner and working as a team.

"When two people pull in the same direction, a lot gets accomplished," she said. "If two people don't pull in the same direction, you don't get much done."
