Dramatic Cliffside Wedding in Ireland | Fly Away Bride

Sue and Barry travelled to Ireland's County Clare to celebrate their wedding at the famous Cliffs of Moher. The couple picked Doolin in Clare for its laid back, friendly feel as well is its location close to Shannon airport for guests coming from abroad. Their hand fasting wedding ceremony was followed by a trip to the cliffs where Sebastian of Art Wedding Photography was on hand to capture some of the most beautiful and arresting couple portraits we've ever featured. The brisk wind and rising sea spray added to the drama and afterwards Sue and Barry returned, windswept but happy, to finish their celebrations at the Doolin Hotel with their guests.

HOW THEY MET

"We met in 2008 on a night out in Galway city, my friend asked Barry to take our picture- it was fate you might say. We were inseparable from that moment. We got engaged New Years eve 2012: we went for dinner along with Sue's sister and her fiancé. Barry popped the question after the starters, down on one knee. All the waiting staff were told by Barry beforehand so they placed us in a quiet corner and were all waiting and watching. There was huge applause from the whole restaurant when it happened!

DECIDING ON THE DESTINATION

We got married in Hotel Doolin, County Clare. After searching all over the country, we just had "the feeling" when we went to Hotel Doolin and knew it was perfect. We would have spent a lot of time in Clare during our relationship camping, surfing and touring around the county so it was under our nose all along. Doolin has a notorious laid back, extremely friendly feel to it so we were sold.

We faced challenges in that Barry is from Cavan, I am from Limerick and we have a lot of family living abroad so it was a challenge to find a place that wasn't too far for the majority of travellers. Doolin was perfect as it's close to Shannon airport, close to Limerick for my family and friends and not too long a drive from Cavan for Barry's gang. We chose a peacock theme for the wedding. Barry came up with this theme as he had a peacock as a child and as we didn't want to be limited to one colour, the peacock feather was the perfect inspiration. We ordered 500 peacock feathers online and incorporated them into our centrepieces, napkins, wedding cake and boutonnieres for the men.

THE BEST BITS

Our best decision was planning our wedding for us, the way we wanted it- choosing everything that we liked as a couple and not following the traditional way. We put our own stamp on everything and because of that the guests got a true feel of who we are and had an amazing time. The best moment was seeing each other at the top of the aisle. Best advice: stay true to who you are as a couple and the entire experience will be a breeze and so much fun. Also, take your time with the planning process: we almost booked two or three places but something always held us back, in the end it was because it just wasn't the right place."
