Anthea & Jon's Portsmouth Wedding - Wedding Friends

Unless you're prone to sea-sickness, a cruise liner is an enchanting and romantic setting for the Big Day! Take some inspiration and add a little maritime theme to your wedding day, playing with nautical colours and imagery.

Anthea and Jon were married in Portsmouth, the town they met and live in, at the Queens Hotel Portsmouth. Photographed by Anthea's old friend Andrew Elliott, this lovely couple are radiant with love and joy. Anthea shares their story...

Lovebirds | How did you two meet?

We met in Southsea, a beautiful part of Portsmouth, where we were both living at the time.

I said Yes | How did the proposal go down?

Jon proposed on Christmas Eve at home in Portsmouth. He knew that we would be seeing both his family and mine over the festive season, and wanted us to all be able to celebrate together (I think he must have been fairly confident I would say yes!). He'd phoned my Dad in Zimbabwe beforehand to ask for his blessing, which was an incredibly special gesture - it was the easiest 'Yes' I've had the privilege to say.

The Big Day | Tell us the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

How to choose from a day filled with amazing moments? It passes by in the blink of an eye, but for me the wedding ceremony was the most memorable part - standing in front of friends and family and marrying my best friend. Jon's Granny read a poem that she'd asked a friend of hers to write for us, entitled 'The Wedding Day' - it was a beautiful moment, there was not a dry eye by the end of the reading! Having Andrew Elliott, who is my friend from University, there to capture those moments, and all the moments that we didn't see, has made all the difference - there was no one I trusted more to capture that, for us to look at for years to come, and remember what a wonderful day it was.

I Quote | Describe in one sentence your wedding day

ove, fun and laughter, friends and family, wonderful memories.

Forever & Always | Any advice for future brides

A piece of advice that a friend gave me before the wedding was to stand back and take a minute to look at all those people most special to you, there to celebrate with you, and enjoy that moment. When I think back to that and realise how many amazing people we have surrounding us on this marriage journey, it makes me realise what a lucky couple we are.
