Rustic Wedding at Snake River Ranch in Jackson Hole :: Callie & Eric | Snippet & Ink

Few places on earth are as breathtaking and majestic as the Tetons, so we never question a couple's decision to wed in their presence - especially when the place holds as much significance as it does for Callie and Eric. We also love that they opted to skip the formal sit-down meal, and instead held "a cocktail hour that lasted all night" - what a fun way to celebrate a marriage! From the needlepoint ring pillow (made by the mother of the bride) to the huckleberry wedding cake, the day was full of sweet details that made it all the more special.

The Ceremony The Reception

Did you include any special traditions in your wedding? My mom needle pointed a ring pillow, as she did for my sister's wedding. I think that's become a family tradition now. She also stitched a blue ribbon into my dress that had our brand and wedding date on it.

Callie wore a romantic champagne gown by Vera Wang, and finished her look in perfect ranch style: with cowboy boots.

Are there any DIY details you'd like to tell us about? Lots of DIY. My dad built the arbor we got married under and the one that held our wedding "brand." The hops that were draping the arbor came from my grandparents' house. I came up with our brand, since the wedding was on a ranch, and that was carried throughout the wedding. A lot of the furniture and hide rugs and lamps are all from my parents house in Jackson. I hand drew a lot of our invitation suite. We hand stamped napkins, branded cowhide rugs, made all the signs, infused our own alcohol for cocktails. Lots of small DIY touches.

"I grew up vacationing in Jackson and my parents now have a home there. It's the kind of place you instantly fall in love with and Eric experienced that too when he first visited back when we were in high school. There's something magical about the Tetons, making Jackson a really special place for us both."

Your ceremony in three words. Non-traditional, authentic, simple.

How did you go about planning your ceremony? We loosely followed a template, just to provide a little bit of structure. But was comprised of parts that felt very authentic and meaningful to us. It was short and sweet, but was very "us," and that was most important. We picked readings that resonated with us and had people very dear to us read them. We found a modern twist on traditional vows that felt more like our natural language.

Who officiated your ceremony? My aunt officiated our wedding. She's lived in Jackson for as long as I can remember and is so passionate about the place she calls home. When we think of Jackson we think of her; it just felt right that she perform the ceremony.

What was your ceremony music? I honestly can't remember. We had a slip up and didn't arrange for ceremony music. So a member of our amazing reception band came and played. I couldn't tell you what was played, but it sure was beautiful!

What were your vows like? We did not write our own vows. We found a modern twist on the traditional vows that language that felt more fitting and more natural to us.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding ceremony? The exchange of rings and finally becoming husband and wife was amazing and definitely a highlight. But one thing we really loved and cherish was a moment before the ceremony. The whole wedding party, my husband and I included, were in this old wagon together having a cocktail, all so excited and overjoyed.

"Our reception was casual and non-traditional. It was open air. We had no formal sit down dinner; rather it was a cocktail hour that lasted all night."

Did you have a signature cocktail? Yes, we had two. One was homemade sage infused whiskey, served on the rocks. The other was homemade huckleberry infused vodka with lemonade.

Why did you choose this location for your reception? Same ranch, but different locations. When we first saw the property we were in awe by its beauty. The ceremony was in a grove of aspen trees, then everyone walked along a creek all the way to the reception in a big open field with a beautiful view of the mountains. The venue was an experience in itself.

What inspired you when you were planning your wedding? The beauty of Jackson, really. We tried to keep everything really natural in color and simple, blend in with the landscape. The Tetons are breathtaking and definitely had a hand in guiding the feel and "theme" of our wedding

What was your favorite moment or part of the reception? When we walked off into a field with Carrie to take a few pictures during the reception. The sun was setting and we were in the most beautiful setting looking at our tent overflowing with all of our loved ones. We felt an overwhelming feeling of joy and love reflecting on how all these people came to celebrate us.

What was your wedding menu? So many delicious things. Showstoppers that I can recall; bacon wrapped chorizo stuffed dates, elk tartare, smoked salmon potato pancakes. The apps were too good, I can't even remember what the main dinner servings were! Late night was the best - fried chicken and honey biscuit sandwiches.

What type of cake or dessert did you serve? Huckleberry cake from the best bakery, Persephone.

What was your first dance song? We had no arranged first dances/songs. We all danced a lot, but we couldn't tell you what songs we danced with each other or our parents to!

What was the best advice you received as a bride? Steal a moment with just bride and groom, after the ceremony, away from the party, to be alone as newly husband and wife and reflect on the ceremony.

What advice do you have for other couples in the midst of planning a wedding? Don't get caught up in doing things the way they normally are done. Break the "rules" to make it feel more authentic for you, there is no right or wrong.

If you had it to do over again, is there anything you would do differently? It sounds cliche, but I really don't think I would.
