This couple decided a very traditional celebration was just right for them, though added their own romantic twist. Despite being Manhattanites, they chose to celebrate in Connecticut, where bride Erin grew up. There, she wed her groom Taylor in front of 150 guests at the loveliest New England church. She carried her great grandmother's handkerchief, and wore a sixpence in her shoe taped in by her mom, whose own mother had done the same at her wedding! Afterwards the happy couple celebrated by the water at Riverside Yacht Club, under a Sperry tent decked out in their blush, ivory and blue color scheme. Here, touches that weren't quite so traditional, but equally thoughtful, came into play, including providing their guests with wraps to ward off the evening chill. If that didn't cut it, they made sure that guests definitely warmed up with cocktails, cookies and music, all selected as a nod to the couple's meeting at college in the South. When asked if she would do anything differently, Erin sums it up her feelings easily: "not a thing!"

What was the best advice you received as a bride? Just have fun! It rained the morning of our wedding and I was a bit upset about it, but one of my best friends and bridesmaid looked at me and said, "no one cares if it rains! They just want to have fun!" That totally put everything into perspective!

Could you think of a better name for Erin's Monique Lhuillier gown than exactly what the designer called it, 'Dream'? With its mermaid shape, delicate all-over lace and super soft blush tone, it was such a pretty choice for this romantic day.

Erin and her bridesmaids carried bouquets filled with David Austin roses, ranunculus, dusty miller and Eugenia Berry. The perfect compliment both to the bride's blush dress and the bridesmaids' blue-grey Amsale gowns.

The Ceremony
Why did you choose this location for your ceremony? While Taylor and I live in Manhattan, I knew I wanted to get married near my hometown in Connecticut. A church ceremony was important to me and my family, and Taylor and I knew we wanted the reception to be by the water. Stanwich Congregational Church was perfect.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding ceremony? I loved the moment when I started walking down the aisle with my father. The church doors opened and I saw all of my family and friends smiling back at us. Then, I saw Taylor at the end of the aisle. It was just a perfect, happy moment.

The couple opted for a traditional Presbyterian service. Rev. Samuel A. Schreiber III (Erin's reverend growing up) married them, Erin's two brothers read from 1 Corinthians 13, and the couple shared traditional vows.

How did you go about planning your ceremony? Stacie Shea Events was our wedding planner, and I couldn't imagine doing it without her. She was amazing. I knew that I wanted a classic wedding, but with a vintage twist. I envisioned something that was formal enough for tuxedos, but not stuffy, and above all, I wanted a big, fun party. Stacie took all of my initial, vague ideas and was able to articulate exactly what I was dreaming. She designed the perfect event and handled all the logistical details.

Your ceremony in three words. Romantic, vintage, classic.

The newlyweds drove off in a 1950s vintage Mercedes, with pastel ribbons a fun addition to their 'Just Married' sign.

The Reception

Why did you choose this location for your reception? Taylor and I wanted to host our reception on the water and were looking for a location that felt quintessentially Connecticut. Riverside Yacht Club fit the bill.

How would you describe your reception? We wanted our reception to be fun. Our color palate was blush pink, light blue, and cream. We wanted a very romantic, vintage feel, but still maintain a classic look. We found great farm tables with lace runners and mercury glass vases and votive candles for a rustic look. We had vintage furniture arranged in lounge areas with frames photos of our parents' and grandparents' weddings. I loved the simple chandeliers that hung from the top of the tent. It felt special, but not too formal.

Erin explains their vision for the flowers, brought to life by Blush Floral Design, as being about wanting "a romantic, pretty and natural feel. The centerpieces varied by table. At the farm tables, we had lots of small floral arrangements running down the middle, along with candles in varying heights. The round tables also varied - some had a collection of smaller floral arrangements while others had one large arrangement. All the floral arrangements were in mercury glass style votive and vases. We used a lot of the same flowers from the bouquets - garden roses, dahlias, and other September flowers in blushes and ivories."

The couple took a stroll to the nearby harbour for photos as the sun set. We love the ethereal quality of the soft light in these shots.

Ana Parzyc Cakes recreated the lace and the blush color of the bride's gown, and made beautiful sugar versions of the flowers from her bouquet.

In a nod to their shared life together, this couple was all about compromise when it came to making sure they enjoyed their stunning cake equally: half of the cake was carrot cake with cream cheese frosting (Erin's favorite), and the other half, white cake with a hazelnut and raspberry filling (Taylor's pick).

What was your first dance song? We danced to Make You Feel My Love, the song recently made famous by Adele, and written by Bob Dylan. We chose it because we love Adele, and Blaire from The Blaire Reinhard Band sings the most amazing version of the song. We didn't really have a song before our wedding, but now we do!

What advice do you have for other couples in the midst of planning a wedding? On the day of your wedding, live in the moment. Everyone tells you that it goes by incredibly quickly, and it's true. There's no sense worrying about anything - the planning is done! Just look around at all the family and friends who are there because they love you and your groom. Don't lose sight of the real meaning of the day - love!
