Behind the Scenes of Our Fall Shoot | Nordstrom Fashion Blog

Over four days last June, a Nordstrom/SPACE crew, including VP Creative Projects Olivia Kim and Creative Projects Director Strath Shepard, trundled around the California dessert with photographer Alex Prager in an attempt to slow down time.

Months before that, in our offices in Seattle, we had surmised that by the time fashion's biggest season came around, what we'd really be after was some calm. Some quietude. A few moments of just being still. With all the cultural shifts, societal transformations and big changes in industry and leadership, we figured you might be open to those things as well.

There was only one thing to do: call the woman whose photographs are so stark and singular, so cinematic and timeless that they seem to both void time and define it simultaneously.

In this post we're sharing Strath and Olivia's images as a way of getting you behind the scenes-and in the ultimate mood-for a fall that's full of discovery.

Olivia plays stylist with Ros (the model) and actual Nordstrom stylist Keara Matthiesen.

Prager's meticulously staged images have been shown around the world in such venues as New York's MoMA, the Arts Club in London, the National Gallery of Victoria in Australia and the Hong Kong gallery Lehmann Maupin. She isn't a fashion photographer; she's an artist.

While these images-and the video that was produced in tandem-help us show you our favorite pieces from Roksanda, Ellery and more, we hope they evoke something about your world, too-your journey.

A giant old airplane fuselage set up as a film set out in the middle of the desert. Alex Prager shoots Ros and Damaris (models) inside an extremely warm plane. Some of the approximately 40 extras hanging out between takes. Olivia looms large over a flying saucer constructed for our UFO shot (see first image). Almost the entire video was shot with a drone-a new experience for many of us. Damaris and Mel-cast and crew-stay out of the blazing sun.
