Wedding - Eyes On The Prize

Eyes On The Prize

If you were to ask a wedding photographer when the worst time to have a new kid would be, they would probably say May, which is the beginning of wedding season. The best time would probably be November, so by the time May rolls around, the kid is 6 months old, and pretty much self sufficient in every way. :) So when we found out our due date was late May, I had to block out a couple months so I could remain home. Now sure I had a wedding last weekend and I have one this Saturday, but that's about it until July. But at some point, a family needs income and you need to get back on that horse again and ride. I've also been casually accepting other portrait offers here and there, and I'm sure by August my plate will be full again. Now will I miss my kid? Of course. But he'll be even more upset if we don't have the money for food, clothing, diapers, etc. So it really is a careful balance of work and time off. I figure I'm blessed to not only have the time, talent and ability to capture weddings, so I might as well while I physically can and while I'm relevant. As Mitch Hedberg famously said, "you can't please all the people, all the time. And last night, all those people were at my show" I know my wife wants me home in the evenings and weekends to help her with Gavin and around the house, but at the same time, need money for the house and food, etc, so there's sacrifice on both sides. I'm just lucky my hobby happens to pay. Just imagine if my hobby was golf and I was gone every sunday spending money hitting a ball around. She'd be a golf widow!
