What to Do With Your Dog on Your Wedding Day

Does your dog have good social skills? If he's okay meeting new people and pets then nothing would be more fun than to include him in the most important day of your life. However, if he has a bad bedside manner, then you'll just have to move on to plan B - a day in the kennels, or with a sitter. Whichever the case, below are some ideas that can come in handy on your wedding day.
As a ring bearer
Having your dog as a ring bearer is one of the most natural roles your dog can play at your wedding. You can have your best man or maid of honor walk him down the aisle with the rings attached to his collar. If you're up for something swankier, then a cute ring bearer pillow tied on the back (like a saddle) can be quite stylish. Don't forget to include a bowtie or doggy tax that the wedding's color scheme.
As a stand in "flower girl"
This may require a little more effort, but if you can pull it off, then it'll have been time well spent. Train your pet to hold the flower basket between her jaws as she carries it down the aisle. Make sure you start practicing some months before your wedding date to improve your chances of success. It's always best to use edible flowers just in case your furry flower girl swallows the flower petals.
As a mascot on your wedding cards, guest book and thank-you note
What better way to show how much your pet friend matters to you than by including them in your invite? This can work out really well if for some reason he can't make it to your wedding day. Include slogans like "our humans are getting married" on the wedding card to keep things interesting.
As part of the wedding party
If bringing him to church proves a little too much for you, having your dog as part of your wedding party with a dog walker assigned to him can also work for you. There's no better time to break out the dog cuffs and decorate the dog leash for a well-choreographed wedding procession! Make sure you include some treats to reward him if he's on his best behavior.
At the photo shoot
Alternatively, you can have him skip the reception, but arrange to for him to be at your wedding shoot; this way you will always have precious photos of you and your dog to cherish.
Ideas for When Your Fuzzy Friend Isn't At the Wedding
Now, we can't always take our dog to our wedding, but that doesn't mean we have to leave him stuck in his kennel the whole day. Here are 3 options you can choose:
  • Board your dog in a "doggy day care". You can always pay extra to have them enjoy playtime with other dogs while you're away.
  • Organize a private dog walk for your fuzzy friend through pet care professionals.
  • Send him to a puppy spa for some TLC.
