We personally know and love the Hunter Valley as a wedding destination, but June is Hunter Valley Wine & Food Month and second to love and family isn't wine and food exactly what weddings are about?! We had the pleasure of checking out what June in the Hunter Valley has to offer!

You don't have to be a food critic or wine connoisseur to enjoy the delights of Hunter Valley Wine & Food Month (HVWFM). The month long festival is simply about enjoying food and wine in creative and intimate settings. So if you're thinking of hosting your wedding in the valley then now is the time to investigate (and have a lovely time doing it!)

While we're nearly halfway through June, there is still plenty happening and it's never too late to plan a sneaky weekend getaway! We managed to check out a few events over the recent long weekend, but you'll find a complete program at www.winecountry.com.au

Here are a few of the events we had the pleasure of checking out:

Breakfast in the Air -

Peterson House is the place for breakfast in the Hunter Valley and each Saturday at sunrise in June, they're taking their amazing breakfast treats to new heights! Experience the wide-open skies and enjoy a selection of Peterson House breakfast canapés and bubbles whilst floating above the picturesque Hunter Valley with Restaurant Cuvee & Balloon Aloft. Eat, Drink, Run -

Eat, Drink, Run is a progressive lunch for serious foodies and wine lovers happening every Saturday in June, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m $110 pp. Travel by bus between four of the Hunter Valley's leading venues, ( First Creek Wines, Gartelmann Wines, The Deck Cafe, Verandah Restaurant and Twine Restaurant) grazing along the way on oysters, canapés and tasting plates by renowned local chef Matt Dillow, with matching Hunter wines. Join executive chef Donna Hollis and her team at RidgeView on Saturday June 14 6:30pm as they draw inspiration from local offerings to bring you a seven course degustation dinner matched perfectly with estate grown RidgeView wines. To book call 02 6574 7332 or email [email protected] $125 pp.

Garden to Plate Cooking School -

Tour the beautiful Margan Kitchen Garden with gardener Pat Hansson on June 20 from 10 a.m., then head to the kitchen for a cooking school with renowned chef Michael Robinson. Afterwards, enjoy a leisurely lunch matched with award winning Margan wine. To book call 02 6579 1372 $85 pp.

Savoury Sips & Sonnets -

Relax by the fire in The Sebel Kirkton Park's homestead lounge and listen to the sounds of bush poetry as you sample unorthodox savoury treats and non-traditional wines. Every Wednesday - Saturday in June from 4pm $45 pp.

High Tea at Café Elan -

Enjoy a weekday treat with high tea at Café Elan (located in Chateau Elan) in their cosy guest lounge. Every Friday - Monday in June 9am-5pm $45 pp. You may even like to visit Chateau Elan's renowned day spa while you're there!

Going to a Garden Party -

Stroll through grounds of Roberts Circa 1876's organic garden with executive chef George Francisco and a glass of champagne taittinger and then sit down to a three course lunch featuring produce from the garden. Sunday 22 nd June 12pm $75 pp.

Roberts Circa 1876 executive chef George Francisco meets with couples marrying at Roberts and personally designs their wedding day menu with them, but the best part is if you want it, he'll grow it in the restaurant's organic garden!

Chef's Plate Lunch at Cypress Lakes Resort by Oaks Hotels & Resorts -

This was SO yum! Dine on delicious confit of Hunter Valley Beef Cheeks, colcannon, red wine jus, matched with a glass of 2010 Wombat Crossing Shiraz at Cypress Lakes Resort everyday in June between 11am & 3pm.
