Lauren and Mike met during their first week of university when she complimented his sweater. "He proceeded to follow me around all night, asking 'can I kiss you?' repeatedly. Before we knew it we were doing math assignments together and officially dating!" Lauren says.

Seven years later, almost to the day, Lauren and Mike were sitting on a rock formation overlooking the ocean at Mike's family cabin when he popped the question. "It was the one and only time he ever managed to keep a secret from me," Lauren laughs.

The goal Lauren and Mike had in mind when planning their wedding was to keep the day as simple and relaxed as possible. "I was trying to strike a balance between having a wedding, but not having it feel too much like a wedding," Lauren explains. The venue was equally important to them, and a natural setting with plenty of space for their friends and family was a non-negotiable. "Island Lake Lodge was the perfect venue for us as it is in the mountains and offers an all-inclusive wedding weekend package. Our wedding was so much more than decorations and pretty dresses, our wedding was like a dressed up weekend family reunion with hiking, relaxing, fun games, amazing music and delicious food."

To complement the natural venue, the couple chose a bright colour palette that would add a pop of vibrance to their decor. Orange and purple accents did the trick, infusing the event with energy and personality. "For the girls, I chose a deep purple, mainly because I adore the colour and Mike's sister, who has red hair, looks fabulous in purple. For the guys, I chose navy suits with orange ties because orange looks awesome with navy and purple!" Lauren explains. Also, in keeping with the natural theme, the couple used bright wildflowers for their bouquets and boutonnieres.

One of Lauren's favourite moments of the day was when she and Mike said their vows in front of their friends and family with the majestic mountains as a backdrop. "Mike's vows were so eloquently written; he compared aspects of his love for me to our mountainous surroundings. They were very special," she reminisces.

While everything at the wedding came together perfectly, Lauren says that the happiness she and Mike felt was the most beautiful detail of the day. "No cake, flowers, or dress could be more beautiful than having just about everyone that we love having fun together on our wedding day."
