The Not Wedding

The Not Wedding

Joy + Joe exchanged their vows at Twin Peaks Ranch - a gorgeous Spanish mission revival estate overlooking the majestic Ojai Valley. They opted for a daytime destination wedding so that everyone could really enjoy the beauty of the property and they enhanced the already charming setting with an abundance of pretty props + thoughtful details. The end result was a day that was a perfect blend of romantic + bohemian styles and a fun representation of Joy + Joe! Here’s more from Joy about how they put their ideas into action: For our wedding, we talked about ideas for months before we really started planning…taking time to listen to each other about all kinds of ideas. We combined a balance between what we share and what is unique, which was important to us to make it special. Many of the elements of our wedding had layers of meaning. We worked together to bring in bits of our personalities too…Joseph is from Oregon and I’m recently from Cali…so we each wanted to have a blend of our own history + style that would tell our story. Thanks so much to Annie McElwain for the beautiful photography and congrats to Joy + Joe! Joy, a former prop stylist, may have taken the lead with most of the styling aspects of the day, but Joe was super involved, too, taking on some serious projects of his own. He handcrafted the ceremony benches, as well as the desert table + roman sail, which was pitched over the reception tables to keep guests cool. I always love hearing how the groom gets involved during the planning process! A good friend (and the person who introduced them!) performed the ceremony. She collaborated with Joy + Joe to tell their story in a delightful and personal way. A major bonus of having a friend officiate! For me, the moment after we said our vows and kissed. I remember feeling so happy and excited and had a big exhale. We really did it! Such pretty portraits of the newlyweds! Their lounge area looked gorgeous and cozy with lots of fun pillows + textiles and beautiful, layered rugs from Casa de Perrin… And the soft, blush tones present in the floral design really echoed the romantic vibe of the day. Modern Floristry went with a pretty mix of dahlias, garden roses + herbs housed in aged terracotta pots + mason jars to give the tables a Tuscan feel. Love their cake, which was decorated with Jonathan Adler salt + pepper shakers (repurposed as fun, modern cake toppers!) as well as lavender + seasonal fruit. Processional: A thousand years – Christina Perri Recessional: Lucky – Jason Mraz First Dance: Marry Me – Train I would say to make it about the both of you. Pick a couple of things that you both feel really would make the day amazing and do everything to make it happen! You know what they say, don’t sweat the small stuff. That’s so true, unless you really care about all the details! So, let those standout and the rest just happen. With all there is to choose from, really take the time to pick a great photographer who you feel gets you both and your vibe. Working with Annie really made us feel relaxed and special. After all, it’s what you have to capture the amazing memories. And when it all starts to happen...remember it’s your day to feel all the love and enjoy.
