Editor's Picks: Our Can't-Live-Without Lip Products

Editor's Picks: Our Can't-Live-Without Lip Products

via

Here at MDC, we have the oh-so-dismal task of testing out new beauty products every day - it's a hard job, but someone has to do it. Because of the great deal of time we dedicate to product testing (woe is us), our lips have donned bright fuschia stains, silky sheer balms, sherbert-colored lipsticks and more. Some of these products we've been pleasantly surprised by, some we've taken a quick selfie with and wiped off immediately, and some we've fallen head over heels in love with - the kind of love where you look at the person product and know you would happily spend the rest of your life with it by your side. This list is a compilation of those lip products, straight from the lips of our team of beauty-obsessed editors. We're here to profess our undying love and make the union official - if anyone should protest, speak now or forever hold your peace.

The Pick: The Praise: This is the one beauty product I never, ever leave home without. In fact, I have one in every clutch/bag I own. Admittedly, I'm an overall addict and love the entire line (from to to ) but specifically has just the right amount of a tint. It provides a hint of a red hue, but not enough that I am nervous to apply it sans mirror. For a girl constantly on the go, it is a must!

The Pick: Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Anarchy
The Praise: Not all pink lipsticks are created equal. The creamy formula, full coverage and staying power of Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick was a game changer for me and adding this color on top of it - jackpot. For me Anarchy is an all-occasion, year-round shade. A light layer with gloss over it is subtle, whereas two strong coats makes for a bold statement. Pink perfection!

The Pick: L'Oréal Colour Riche Balm
The Praise: They're sheer, but provide just the right amount color and they're super moisturizing - perfect for daytime wear when I don't want to be constantly reapplying lipstick. My favorite is . It's actually almost all gone, but thankfully I have five others in rotation.

The Pick: Kevyn Aucoin The Matte Lip Color in Tenacious
The Praise: If I'm going to go matte (and I often do), I want it to be totally matte - not semi-matte, not satin - matte matte, like this one. It's creamier than a lot of matte formulas and the pigment payoff is superb, especially in this bright bubble gum pink. Plus, I just really love the name.

The Pick: in Coral Crush
The Praise: I'm warning everyone in advance to stay out of my way when I run out of this limited edition tube of magical goodness - emotions will run high and tears may be shed. The entire MDC office has a serious affair with Baby Lips and I own one in almost every color, but this shade has grown into an all-time favorite. I'm obsessed with the universally-flattering coral tint and love the sheer wash of peachy color it gives my lips.

The Pick: NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Moscow
The Praise: Don't be scared by how dark it appears in the tube - this smooth matte lipstick by NARS actually shows up as a warm, deep strawberry red on the lips. One swipe of this lip color and I instantly feel more put-together. It pairs perfectly with a smoky eye for nights out, but I'd just as easily wear it with a bare (well, sans eyeliner) face during the daytime.

The Pick: Smith's Rosebud Salve
The Praise: I cannot live without this product. It moisturizes deep down, keeps my lips nourished for hours, and provides just a touch of color necessary for my frequent minimalistic makeup days. It also leaves my lips with a slight sheen that complements a dewy face perfectly. I'm particularly partial to the salve in a tin - it reminds me of the tin lip balms my mom owned when I was a child.

The Pick: em Michelle Phan Creamy Color Matte Lipstick in Passion Berry
The Praise: I've always been more of a gloss or balm girl, but my affection for lipstick has definitely grown over the years. When I try a shade I like, it becomes my go-to product for any night that calls for a bold lip; right now, that product for me is em Michelle Phan Matte Lip Color in Passion Berry . The matte lipstick dream glides on effortlessly with strong pigment and staying power. It also brings out my inner beauty chameleon, since a dramatic matte berry lip (that suits even the fairest of skin tones) is the exact opposite of my normal balm-tinted lips.
