Feeling pretty good about your hair, skin and makeup know-how? It's time to test your body beauty knowledge. Find out which of these commonly held beliefs are true and which ones are entirely false.

1. Crossing your legs will give you varicose veins.

Fact or fiction? Fiction.

Reality: There is no medical research to confirm that crossing your legs can cause or contribute to varicose veins. Some of the best ways to avoid unsightly veins are very simple: exercise regularly, maintain a healthy weight and keep your blood pressure low.

2. Wearing high heels can cause varicose veins.

Reality: The real culprit for varicose veins is standing for long periods of time. Standing makes the vascular network work overtime to pump blood from the legs to your heart. Now add heels into the mix and you're building up even more pressure. If the thought of flats makes you cringe, at least make sure to remove your shoes every hour and point and flex your toes to help relieve the pressure. If you've already got the veins, cover them up with full coverage makeup - is the gold standard.

3. Applying rich products like cocoa butter and olive oil will stop stretch marks.

Fact or fiction? Fiction.

Reality: Stretch marks reside in a layer of skin that's so deep that topical creams and oils can't penetrate far enough below the epidermis (the top layer of skin) to have any impact. Unfortunately, once the collagen and elastin fibers that support skin break, they're just broken.

4. You can't smell your own perfume.

Reality: Your skin may not build up a tolerance to your favorite products, but your nose can become accustomed to your signature scent. Beware - just because you become less sensitive to your regular fragrance, doesn't mean the rest of the world does. One spray on the pulse points - the back of your neck, the backs of knees and your wrists or elbows - is all needed when first started wearing , and it's all you'll ever need ... even if you can't smell it anymore.

5. You can get rid of cellulite.

Fact or fiction? Fiction.

Reality: Contrary to what you might think, cellulite has very little to do with weight. Losing weight will not release the fat deposits that get trapped between the fibrous bands of the skin's connective tissues. However, you can reduce the appearance of the lumpy texture with firming products, like Murad Firming Cream, Nip + Fab Cellulite Fix and SkinCeuticals Body Tightening Concentrate . A good self-tanner works as great camouflage too.
