We have a crush on wedding photographer, Sarah Perez, and if you've ever met her - you'd understand. Sarah is an easy to talk to, outdoor loving, Colorado Native who married her high school sweetheart. (She asked him to homecoming!)

With her husband as her second shooter and the most adorable puppy at her side - she is the kind of person that you would want to be best friends and go to brunch with. We got the chance to sit down and learn about her passion for wedding photography. See the exclusive interview below!

How did you get started in photography?

Like all little sisters, I used to copy everything my brother did and follow him everywhere. He's always been an amazing photographer so I wanted to be just like him. Then, I eventually developed my own style and perspective and then I took high school photography classes and fell in love with it. Then I ended up getting my fine art photography degree from DU and was lucky enough to start my business shortly after that.

What is your primary style?

I would say it's a mix of photojournalistic, documentary, organic and fine art. My goal is always to capture the real raw moments of a wedding and tell a story with my photographs. But, I also bring a fine art perspective to it because of my background.

What is the first thing that you ask a couple?

I always ask them to tell me their story. I know it sounds like an obvious answer, to ask them how they met, but it really is the most important question. I can learn so much from them by listening to how they met or how they got engaged. I can see them interact and see if they're more shy, outgoing, or quirky - I want to get to know them as best as they can so that they're more comfortable and relaxed around me later.

Do you have any advice for a bride and groom?

My biggest advice is that when they look at a photographer's portfolio, to make sure they feel something. Because, more important than anything, it's the feeling that they're going to get when they look back at their wedding photos 40 years from now. So when they look at their photographer's portfolio - they should feel the way that they want to feel when they look at their own wedding photos and remember their own wedding day.

What sets you apart from other wedding photographers?

I'd say the biggest thing is that I always know what the current trends are and I play around with them in my own unique way. I always keep my own voice that kind of adds a timeless and classic element to it too. Trends always fade and are fleeting so I don't usually use overlays or filters and I try to convey my style more through compositions and moments.

Do you have a favorite part of a wedding to shoot?

My favorite part is after the ceremony. We always do more unique and candid photos of the couple. It's right after they get married and they're always so relieved. They don't have any stress and are always in awe that they finally got to that point. It's always easy to photograph because they have such raw emotions and you can get such great candids from playing off that feeling.

What inspires you?

A lot inspires me. I get to work with my husband all the time and we are best friends so we bounce ideas off each other all the time. He's an amazing sketch artist too - so he always has a unique perspective. We both have that artistic background. We also love to travel - we've been to 22 states and 7 countries together, so far. Right now I shoot mostly Colorado weddings but, I am available to travel worldwide!
