Quirky Vintage Feel Country Pub Wedding

Quirky Vintage Feel Country Pub Wedding

It's always a wonderful start to the week when I get to read words such as these from today's bride Kate; "I am an avid WWW reader and read everyday in the run up to the wedding! It provided me with so much inspiration!"

Woohoo. I wonder how many of you are sat there right now drawing inspiration from this very wedding, who I will have the pleasure of then featuring later in the year too? Isn't that just a super exciting thought?

Kate and Pete were married on the 25th July 2014, choosing to hold their wedding at The Ginger Fox; a gorgeous country pub. They envisioned an informal fun wedding with a vintage feel.

There was a real home-made feel to their day, with Kate's mum and grandma contributing with sweet decorations, home grown flowers and scrummy cakes.

I must admit though that it's the attire today that got me excited. Kate looked effortlessly beautiful in her Jane Bourvis vintage lace dress with her hair in romantic waves, Pete donned a blue suit with burgundy bow tie and the bridesmaids were in pastel dresses. Ekkk.

Thanks goes to the marvellous Emma Lucy Photography for sharing her imagery.

THE PROPOSAL | We were on holiday together on the very beautiful island of Hvar, in Croatia. We went for a walk along the coast one evening and found a place to sit amongst the rocks to watch the sun go down over the ocean. The scenery was so beautiful and there were only a handful of local fishermen around so it was very personal and romantic.

THE VISION | We really wanted our wedding to be a relaxed and informal day, where everyone could have fun and be merry together! We also wanted to keep things personal and it was important that the wedding was a true reflection of our personalities. We didn't have a colour scheme as such and had a slight vintage feel in mind.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We had a year to plan, which gave us ample time to organise and gather! I found wedding blogs and Pinterest an amazing source of inspiration during the planning process. There is so much creativity out there! I am a prolific list maker and kept my wedding notepad close to hand at all times. Pete is a dab hand at spreadsheets, which came in handy for the budget. We tried to keep planning as stress free as possible and make it enjoyable, making decisions over pizza and wine!

BUDGET | We went over...

THE VENUE | We had the Ginger Fox in mind as soon as we got engaged. We wanted a really relaxed and informal venue where everyone felt comfortable and The Ginger Fox in Albourne was perfect! The Ginger Fox is a picturesque country pub near the idyllic South Downs, with a huge garden, intimate dining room and amazing food, which was a 'must have' for us! They were so relaxed and accommodating with everything we wanted to do - it was a real pleasure.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The extremely talented Jane Bourvis made my dress. I had been an admirer of Jane's designs and made an appointment with her straight away. I had such a good feeling on my way to my appointment and was in awe of all the beautiful lace dresses when I arrived. My dress was the first and only dress I tried on! I knew it was "the one" as soon as I had it on! It was made from several different pieces of intricate vintage lace and I loved that it was one of a kind! I felt incredibly special wearing it. Jane was such a joy to work with and the whole experience was wonderful.

I wore Rachel Simpson shoes, from the Bridal Boutique in Haslemere. The vintage style went perfectly with my dress and they were so comfy I danced in them all night!

I wanted to look like myself on the day so wore my hair down in big waves, expertly done by my very talented hair stylist Amy, and wore an amazing Jenny Packham headpiece, which I borrowed from a very lovely friend.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Pete looked so handsome in his blue tailored Richard James suit, which he bought on Savile Row with his ushers. He wore a burgundy silk bow tie and brown shoes, which completed the vintage feel we had. The ushers all wore blue suits in different shades with matching burgundy silk ties. They all looked so smart together!

THE MUSIC | Music is really important to us and we spent the most time trying to decide our ceremony music! I walked down the aisle to "These Arms of Mine" by Otis Redding, we had songs by Desire and Penny and the Quarters and we walked out to "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles. I still get butterflies when I hear them now!

Our friend DJ'd at our reception, which was SO much fun! He played the best 'non-wedding' music ever and everyone was up on the dance floor! He was such a success our friends threw him up in the air and demanded several encores! He definitely bought the fun to our party!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I was very keen on having my bridesmaids in different colours and I was so pleased we went with that! I really wanted each of them to feel happy and comfortable in what they were wearing on the day and to have a dress they loved. Plus it made shopping a breeze! To tie them together they all wore pearl drop earrings and had their hair in a messy side bun. They all looked so beautiful and the mix of colour was fab!

THE FLOWERS | We wanted to flowers to have a seasonal wild flower feel and to be a pretty mix of pastel colours. I had bought flowers from the very beautiful Viva Verde florist in Hove before and I knew I wanted them to do the bouquets and buttonholes. We met with the very talented Lynnette, who completely understood our vision and was wonderful to work with. We went for seasonal flowers such as scabious, roses and scented stocks, in a wonderful mix of pastel colours. When Lynnette hand delivered the bouquets on the morning of the wedding, I was just blown away by how beautiful they were. She had completely nailed what we had asked for and I was so happy!

All the flowers at the reception were from my Grandma's garden and were lovingly arranged by my Mum and Grandma in vintage green bottles, which we collected from various markets and car boots over the course of the year. They looked so beautiful, smelled amazing and the fact that they had been grown in my Grandma's garden was a lovely personal touch.

THE CAKE | We had several delicious cakes, all baked by my Mum and Grandma, which we topped with handmade cake toppers such as mini fabric bunting and a personalised one of us my Maid of Honour had made! We displayed the cakes together on vintage glass cake stands and they looked (and tasted) delicious!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We did a lot of research on photographers and really liked reportage style photos. We knew straight away from Emma Lucy's portfolio that she had the style we were after and was a very talented photographer. Choosing her as our wedding photographer was the best decision! Emma worked so tirelessly on the day to ensure she captured every special moment for us. Her eye for detail is just extraordinary and she captures the most special of moments that pass by in a flash! She was an absolute professional at all times and was also a genuinely wonderful person to have around, going above and beyond for us on the day, including actually driving Pete and the ushers to the ceremony when their car didn't arrive! We were absolutely thrilled when we got our photos back and we can't stop looking through them!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We made as much as we possible could to keep the day as personal as possible, and also to keep costs down! Pete joked that I had my nearest and dearest in a wedding sweatshop, as everyone got involved! Pete's mum hand painted the name cards, which were held in champagne corks, happily collected in the run up to the wedding! My mum hand made meters upon meters of multi coloured bunting for the front of the pub, which looked so pretty. We had homemade sloe gin in little bottles as our wedding favours, and homemade chutney with the cheeses.

We wanted lots of colour and hung tissue paper pom poms, bunting and lanterns outside in the trees on ribbon.

We made our own photo booth, with vintage gold frames and flowers. We hung the frames on brightly coloured ribbon from the trees and had our guests take their photos with a Polaroid camera. The photos were then stuck into our guest book with a little message from our guests - reading through the messages the next day was so lovely!

THE HONEYMOON | We hired a convertible and drove from LA to San Francisco along the coastal Route 1. We wanted to go somewhere with a mix of sunshine, beaches and lots to fun things to do and see, and California definitely provided that and more!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The whole day was so special - we had the best day ever!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | It sounds obvious, but remember to keep yourselves in mind when planning your wedding. It is your day, so do things that make you happy! Don't sweat the small stuff! You will have the most amazing day regardless! Finally, invest in a good photographer - trust me, it will be worth it!
