Whether the recent storm warning lived up to its expectations or not, this winter you just might be spending a little extra time indoors. Here are some fun DIY projects to help you pass the time without going stir-crazy (plus, as you practice on these tutorials, you just may find a terrific detail or two for your wedding in the process).

Above, these mugs are really easy. Make yourself a practice version, and then set yourself to work on creating gifts for your favorite vendors or friends that have helped you with wedding prep. Include a herb start wrapped in burlap for an extra special touch.

You're probably not going to get a reception-worthy terrarium on your first go. Unless you are some sort of gardening genius-extraordinaire, it's going to take a couple of planters to really get the hang of it. But once you decide what plants look best together and how to space them, they make stunning, modern centerpieces (which can be gifted to cherished relatives after the reception).

Love the woodland decor trend? Make yourself these cute fabric acorns (below) to decorate a table runner on your dining table. Later, if you go rustic chic for your big day, you can incorporate them on the welcome table or as place card holders.

Another popular DIY trend revolves around all different types of folded paper crafts. Play around with different shapes for cool geometric effects. Turn them into a print, like above, or just keep them loose and turn them into a photo backdrop or simple centerpiece later.

Speaking of backdrops, whether used in a photo booth or for a blank wall at your venue, you can use such a variety of different mediums. This idea for a plate wall (below) is perfect to display a kitschy collection of bright dishes for a retro-styled reception.

Want an easy little craft to work on for a hour? Make one of these adorable fabric hexagon bookmarks (below). If it ends up being fun, this is a totally affordable favor for a vintage wedding.

These striped candlesticks would be a very chic way to sit out a power outage (and there are usually plenty during winter in the Pacific Northwest). Make them in your wedding color palette to use them in your day-of decor.

Nothing like a little whimsy to brighten up a winter day. Invite your friends over for a snow day cocktail fest, throw on some rom-coms, and embellish your glasses with these frilly cocktail umbrellas for some insta-joy.

Modern wedding DIY crafts can have just as much playfulness. This "Guess Who?" personalized game board (below, left) would make a really clever escort card holder on your welcome table. And if you want to serve donuts instead of cake at your reception, don't forget your gluten-intolerant friends with these pretty "donut" macarons (below, right).
