Festival Brides Loves - Bridal Hairpieces by Feather & Coal

So, when Laura featured the amazing pieces of Feather & Coal in her Crowned Bride article back in June, it's safe to say that the entire FBrides office fell head over heels for the brand and we just couldn't wait to get more of F&C's beautiful collection on the blog!

Today it's my pleasure to introduce the lovely Emily Kent to you, absolute girl boss supreme and the creative genius behind the bridal hair pieces of Feather & Coal.

This gal dreams big, and boy does she dream beautiful! Y'all are gonna swoon so hard when you see what Feather & Coal has to offer, so let's get to it, shall we?...

I am Emily! My absolute passion in life has always been hairstyling. It's all I've ever done and I am entering my 16th year now... Gulp!

I keep busy - to say the least - and have been incredibly lucky to have some amazing jobs in my career across fashion, music, TV etc. I have also had consulting roles, written for some of the glossies and started my own companies.

Aside from that my life consists of going on as many food based holidays that we can manage each year; cooking, eating and looking for exciting recipes. I want a dog more than anyone else you'll ever meet, I also love interiors, vintage Japanese fabric and turquoise jewellery.

Myself, my fella and friends definitely enjoy a festival and go to at least one every year...our taste has somewhat changed over the years and the one that suits us best now is Wilderness. I describe it as the best ever ever ever school/village fete you could ever dream of going to and then some. It is perfect for us and every year we leave wishing we had more time there. Its magical.

I am a hairstylist first and foremost, that is my day job. I have owned my own bridal hair and make up agency for the past 4 years, representing and training some of the best UK artists in this field, but life takes you down some interesting roads doesn't it? Next thing you know you are starting a bridal headwear range!

I have had SO many bridal clients throughout my career, one thing led to another and Feather & Coal was born. This is my latest venture and it is a business of the most organic origin possible, I think. I have never studied design or millinery, I've never been to uni, but instead what took me down this route was my hands on experience working with hair.

Notes and scribbles turned into mocked up prototypes and samples which then developed into a real collection that I am so incredibly happy with. I think that experience really has been my most valuable asset in getting F&C going. I have simply designed pieces that I would like to see in hair and that I would enjoy working with, that is literally as simple as it is. I have started with a small collection of 6 but have a lot more designs up my sleeves.

The main thing I hope that we offer is an alternative to the norm.

I have seen it all when it comes to accessories... The very very good and the very very bad. Of course each to their own, but some of the overly jazzy, cheaply made, badly designed items I have seen over the years have stuck with me, and not in a good way.

Accessories are not mandatory, and I tried to really think about that within the collection. Brides should be buying these pieces because they absolutely love them and can't live without them and the thought of something I have created having that effect gives me tingles.

Feather & Coal is very new, only within our first 3 months in fact, so at the moment I can't really remember all the interaction with the brides we have sold to. As I said though, it's a massive buzz being the designer of something that simply makes another person happy.

It's different to my normal work styling hair, it feels different to that. It's a really exciting prospect, seeing images after the wedding of how they made their whole look come together.

I want F&C to run along side my agency and the two feed into each other.

Designing the pieces has been one of the most personally rewarding experiences of my career. I hope that season after season we are able to bring something new and fresh to the market, I feel so much passion and drive to push the company forward... I feel as strong as Tina Turner's hair!

Things never seem that bad after you listen to Bob Marley.

...Ok, so I'm having a major 'If I could do it all again' moment!

Seriously though - I reckon we'd have a hard choosing between those six gorgeous designs, let alone then choosing how to style them! We heart the versatility of each design so much!

If you're looking for the perfect bohemian piece to complete your look, safe to say Feather & Coal is a pretty rad place to find it!

Peace + Love
