Fall Trend Tutorial: Hitchcock Heroines

Fall Trend Tutorial: Hitchcock Heroines

Polished, ladylike glamour with just a hint of drama–this fall the femme fatale is getting an upgrade. Were talking about sophisticated victory rolls, creamy red lips and an update to the classic cat eye. Steal the show this season just like one of Hitchcock’s Heroines with our take on the yesteryear starlets’ classic cool. Makeup artist Elyse Reneau stopped by to show us how to make the runway trend wearable.

Eyes

The cat eye trend never really goes away; but this fall, try it with a twist. Reneau created a heavy wing on top with her angled eyeliner brush and Yves Saint Laurent Effet Faux Cils Crème D’Eyeliner in Deep Black, and set it with matte black eye shadow. Try a richly pigmented shadow like Maybelline ExpertWear Eyeshadow Singles in Night Sky or Sunday Riley Prismasilk Eye Color in Little Black Dress. On the runways of Anna Sui, feline lines up top were paired with chunky dashed lines below. Reneau tamed down the trend by rounding the dots that decrease in size at each corner of the eye.

Lips

A creamy crimson pout was the obvious choice both on the runway and for our real way recreation. For Allison, our starlet with the scarlet lips, Reneau lined and filled in the lips with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in 69, before applying a matte classic red shade. Try Lancôme Color Design Lipcolor in Red Haute or Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Color in Red Carpet. A touch of concealer around the lips to clean the lines and make the pout really pop finished the look.

Hair

Of course a leading lady would never be caught without perfectly coiffed hair. Reneau channeled the 1940s feel with slightly undone victory rolls, reminiscent of the ones that went down the runway at Carolina Herrera. She divided the hair in two sections, twisting and pinning all the way around to the back of the head. Tuck any remaining hair up into a bun at the nape of the neck and pin it all in place.

Don’t forget to check out the runway inspiration! Would you try this trend this fall? Let us know what you think of the look below.
