Halloween Party Tips

When I think of events like Halloween I sing to myself Public Enemy’s lyrics ‘Let’s Get This Party Started Right’. But of course to get a party started you need to have the right ingredients to do so. Planning a party like Halloween isn’t as difficult as you think. In this edition we cover how to plan a party for the adults as we are still kids at heart. Halloween is a spooky time of the year and many adults skip the day to be your alter-ego because they are trick-or-treating with the kids. However, not everyone has kids and in the meantime want to enjoy a good Halloween party with their adult friends. So to plan your party here are some easy tips to help you get started. 1. DECOR – The main thing you want to decorate is the entrance of your home or venue. This sets the tone regarding expectations. Grab a few pumpkins (real or fake), candles, lanterns, some scary witch laughter, hay and you’re set. If you want to really add effect, get a smoke machine and hire your kid cousin to be the Scare Crow sitting in the chair and jumps up to shock your guests. Inside simply dim the lights, have a few up-lights and spider webs. It really doesn’t need to be grand as it’s too dark to see. 2. ENTERTAINMENT – For a party I love engaging my guests. Have a creepy looking tarot card reader, magician and a best costume contest. It doesn’t hurt to get a great DJ or create a playlist on your iPod. Many people hate scary movies so if you have a projector use a white sheet and run a movie like Friday the 13th during the Halloween party. 3. FOOD & BEVERAGE- Even though kids may consider candy as the only food in the world, that’s not the case for adults. Split up your food between different stations to refrain from having huddles. Hire a bartender to create some signature drinks and throw in some plastic bugs, spiders, and worms for effect. 4. GIFTS – What better gift to give your guests than a bag full of candy. I recommend going old school and finding some of your favorite childhood candy. Mr. Goodbar, Bubble Tape, Cow Tales, Nerds to name a few. However you plan your Halloween party just make it fun for your guests. And remember to be safe on this day and brush your teeth after eating all the candy.
