Woman Documents Her Own Surprise Proposal Without Knowing It

Troy and Eliza of Tampa, Fla. met on Match.com in February 2013. Troy -- a football coach and father of three -- was blindsided by a divorce after 19 years of marriage. Eliza -- a special education teacher and a mother of three -- was widowed six years ago after her husband's sudden death.

"Actually, when I met Troy online, I was done," Eliza said. "That was it, that was the last [one]. I was like, 'Alright, I'm going to talk to this one last person,' and I was just done. Because when my husband died, I lost every single hope and dream I had for the future. And Troy has brought that back to my life."

In November 2013, Match.com selected Troy's entry out of hundreds of others as the winner of a "proposal of a lifetime," which included an engagement ring, the help of a professional proposal planner and a videographer to capture the experience.

On the day of the proposal, Eliza was told that a camera crew was there to interview her and Troy for a documentary about successful couples that met online. Together they visited different spots from throughout their relationship, using a Polaroid camera to capture the important moments and places throughout the day. Unbeknownst to Eliza at the time, she was actually documenting the day of the engagement.

At night, Troy, along with all six of their kids and Eliza's family and friends, were waiting for her in her backyard. The yard was decorated and beautifully illuminated with strings of white lights (Photo below). Troy got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Her response was, of course, a "yes!".
