Making Curtains & A Bean Bag | Boy's Room Decor | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

I haven't really shared much about the house since we've moved in. We got the basics done on the renovation front, stripping the walls, re plastering, installing a new boiler, removing fitted cupboards, re wire, white painted walls, grey carpets upstairs and stripping and oiling the wooden floors downstairs.

I am not ready to show pictures of any of the rooms yet as quite simply they are not finished hehe! With light fittings missing, some wood work needing to be painted and finishing touches put in. The living room is by far the most complete of all the house, so hopefully I can share a before and after with you soon.

I focused on getting A's room done first, I wanted A to feel settled and happy. So his room has plain white walls and grey carpet plus his old furniture. I wanted to make curtains for his room and when I came across the Ikea Tidny fabric nothing else could compare. Perfect for a 4 year old, fun, quirky and classic.

With the help of my mum we made these :-) And I am over the moon with the results. It took a good day with us both working on them, cutting, pinning, ironing and sewing. Cost wise the fabric was really reasonable and I think in all it cost around £50.

If you are thinking of making curtains, then go for it. Firstly find a great pattern; we used one from my mum's book. It's always useful to have someone more experienced in sewing with you the first time round, as it can be a little confusing. Once you have your head around it you will be well away.

Plus we had enough fabric left over so I could make a bean bag which I did at the weekend.

I kept putting off the bean bag. I knew I needed to find the bean bag inner and balls which wasn't easy to locate. One afternoon in Dunelm Mill ( where are curtain poles are from) I found a child's bean bag reduced to the price of what the inner would have cost me. The bonus was that I could unpick the bean bag cover, then use the fabric as a template for this one. Then I simply ironed the seams and sew them together on the sewing machine. I am hoping I may just be able to squeeze a little cushion from the fabric remnants.

Anyway A is happy with the new additions to his room so that's perfect :-)

I am going for a black and white theme for his room now. We need to get him a single bed as he is still in his cot bed and so a new (or old) wardrobe and chest of drawers to match would be lovely. We were tempted to paint one of his walls in blackboard paint, BUT we're not sure we can face any more painting at the moment hehe! Although I may go for a black board sticker instead, as it is easy remove if we come to change things up.

I do have a couple of Ikea picture ledges for A's books once we have the lay out of his room down, which I think will look lovely. So now we just need to get his furniture sorted out.

Does anyone have any children's room decoration tips? I'd love to hear them.

Happy Sunday XOXO Lou
