A Snowy Owl-Themed Wedding Shoot

A Snowy Owl-Themed Wedding Shoot

For this inventive styled shoot, wedding designer Sharon Auld from Naturally Chic and Kim Payant of Kim Payant Photography wanted to create a look indicative of winters in the Canadian Rockies.

"The design and color palette for this shoot was inspired by the snowy owl," explains Auld. "With its impressive plumage, the male owl is a pure, snowy white while its female counterpart has white, grey and black feathers, not unlike the colours found naturally in a Canadian winter landscape. To complete our color palette we took inspiration from a winter sky at dusk. In extremely cold weather itʼs not uncommon to see a barely there, pink hue on the horizon at sunset. Itʼs an amazing sight to behold juxtaposed against the snow-capped mountains. Janelle Gerestein, from Flowers by Janie, created lovely pink and white florals to complement our colour palette."

The snowy owl became the motif for this styled shoot and it was worked in throughout the contemporary rustic decor. "Kim made some beautiful, spun sugar nests to sit at each place setting," says Auld. Guest favours included birch wood coasters engraved with a snowy owls and whimsical, felted owls. "Our sweet table echoed the bird and feather motif with a feather garland, white coloured treats and faux owls perched on birch logs. A simple, yet decidedly Canadian addition to the sweet table decor was that of authentic soap stone carvings of Canadian wildlife that , of Flowers by Janie, borrowed from her fatherʼs personal collection."

"We kept the design on the guest tables somewhat minimalist with clean lines and contemporary styling. We used real white marble with maple wood stands for the place
cards and menus. Our table numbers were made from repurposed house numbers that were attached to maple wood for a graphic effect. To make our head table unique, we
used a stunning white, real feather linen and we incorporated pink flowers in copper vases for a pretty, feminine look. Pale pink linen napkins and a feather at each place setting, rounded out the design," explains Auld.
