Bridal Romance: Hushed Commotion ♥

Designer and founder of Hushed Commotion, Thea, started her bridal line with the goal to create detailed bridal accessories and pieces that were elegantly vintage while still fitting into the modern day brides vision. Every exquisite Hushed Commotion piece is hand-made in NY. This summer Hushed Commotion shot their 2015 collection lookbook in NYC on the roof top terrace of Norwood club with Brklyn View Photography. The day was filled with Lush florals from Lindsay Rae Design, dreamy Rebecca Schoneveld gowns, chalk art from Chalk It Up 2 Love and of course, gorgeous accessories galore!

Thea, shares that the current collection was inspired by love and nature: "I think we can all say that we are feeling the romance right now in the wedding industry! I have been feeling really inspired by nature, whimsical light and blush colored details. It may also have had something to do with planning my own wedding this year..."

I love gold! I am a romantic, but I also love putting a twist on classic styles. I am a huge fan of vintage motifs and finishes.

Hushed Commotion: Meet Designer Thea

My materials really speak to me, maybe because I did so much sculpture as a younger woman. I need to touch and feel the materials to decide how I want to use them. I spend a lot of time exploring new techniques and metals before I start the process. Usually I have one piece that anchors the collection and then I build upon that. This season it was my Abella veil, it was my first new piece - a true labor of love with all those scattered crystals and castings!

Valuing the hand-made process immensely, every piece is hand-made in NY. "I grew up in a family that valued the artisan," shares Thea, "And I am a big believer in encouraging the world to find their way back to supporting the artisans of this world and the craft that is involved in creating beautiful pieces of wearable art."

I am loving "juliet cap" style veils! Just like my Sadie veil. I am also loving flowers placed just in the back of the head instead of all the way around in a flower crown, you'll see that in my opulent Liliana headpiece.

Thea explains that she has always been an avid artist: "For the majority of my formative years I was painting, drawing and sculpting. In highschool I started exploring the fashion side of the art world."

Be true to yourself. These days there is no fixed "norm" you have to adhere too, so if you don't want to wear a veil, then don't! I do also encourage brides to think about two hair pieces, such as a veil for the ceremony and then a hair comb or crown for the reception. It is a lot easier to change out a head piece than a belt (most belts should be sewn into the dress so that they don't slip around). That way you can have fun with your look!

The summer before her senior year of highschool she was accepted into a summer program at the Chicago Art Institute where she focused on fashion. "My teacher there was incredible and I credit her a lot with the passion and love of fashion and wearable art that grew within me."

Thea shares that her showing at Bridal Market in NYC this past year was incredibly motivating experience: "Being able to prove to myself that I was capable of all the hard work, planning and design needed to make that happen was very satisfying. Once I was there, hearing from my current buyers and meeting so many new stores who were interested in my line helped to fuel my creative fire!"
