"I am actually in Nordstrom right now, checking out at the cosmetics counter," says Jacey Duprie, the creator and editor behind the popular blog Damsel in Dior, when she answers the phone.

When not traveling the planet snapping shots of beautiful outfits in glamorous settings, the petite blonde resides in West Hollywood, where she runs her website and Instagram channel. Duprie exerts considerable fashion influence online with her photo posts about fashion, beauty and décor. Recently, she partnered with Splendid on a collection of cotton pieces. We spoke with her about her love of tees, her creativity and this new collaboration.

Tell us how this collaboration with Splendid came about?

I am the daughter of a cotton farmer. I grew up in southern Texas. Farming has been in my family for 175 years. Having grown up on a cotton farm, it seemed like an organic fit. It has been a dream of mine to do a cotton collection. But doing that on my own seemed daunting. So I was at a showroom in L.A. that reps Splendid, and a good friend of mine at the showroom made the introduction. It was a nice fit from the beginning. I grew up wearing their clothes. They let me have almost complete control over the designs and I am very thankful for that creative freedom.

What was it like being raised in a cotton farming family?

I loved it. It was fun! I helped out on the farm a lot. The entire family chipped in to help my dad with the harvest. We drove the tractor. Took the workers lunch. Helped out with bookkeeping. We were all very involved.

It was very inspiring in a way. I grew up in the middle of nowhere so you had to use your imagination to come up with things to do. My brother and I made movies. We played in the mud. We made tree forts. I like to think I am still doing that essentially on the blog.

How did you work with the Splendid team?

We met a couple times to go over logistics, then we got down to designing. I have a vault of favorite tee shirts. I brought those into our meeting. I put them on and explained why I liked each one. We kind of pieced together elements of past favorites and put together what I consider the perfect tees. We went through two rounds of that and I just picked my favorites. I love neutrals. So we picked very neutral colorways.

We cut some samples. The piece that we went back and forth on the most was the dress. Where the peplum skirt hit had to be perfect. We probably went back and forth a dozen times.

What makes a perfect tee?

To me the perfect t-shirt is something you want to wear 24/7. I sleep in my white tees. I wake up and go to work in them. I wear them to dinner. It's something you don't want to take off your body. What makes me want to keep it on is the feel of the fabric. I like my tees soft but not too soft, just not starchy. The fit, I like things fitted but not too tight. I like things looser. The neck needs to hit in the right area around the collarbone, too.

You always look so lovely in your photos. What do you actually wear when you're blogging?

Thank you! Well, I'm now wearing my black peplum dress. I literally live and breathe this dress. I went into Nordstrom a week ago before my trip in the white dress. [She laughs.] When I am in L.A., and not putting together inspiring outfits but running around LA, I like to be comfortable. Lately I've been living in the dress.

Do you have any tips for great Instagram photos?

For me, I am trying to take photos of an outfit that's wearable. I tried to shoot more inspirational photos but I found pictures of what I am actually wearing that day worked better. Stay true to yourself and what you're comfortable in. I try not to give in to trends. I know a year or so from now, I might regret them. Know what your brand is. Everybody has a personal brand.

What about guidelines for blogging and social media generally?

I try to post six times a day. But I just came off a 35-day-long trip so I'm kind of brain dead-on a hiatus if you will. I try to post a variety of outfits, not just photos of me. I'm not that much of a narcissist. [Laughs.] I try to show where I am getting my inspiration from, what I think is pretty.

As for growing a following and what works best for me and my readers: I post at the same time, six a day, every two hours. I use the same filter for my images. VSCO is the app whose filter I use. It allows me to see my entire feed so that I can be consistent, so the photos match. I don't post it if they don't. If the photo doesn't turn me on then I don't put it up. You have to like it in order for other people to like it.

How did your personal style develop? Do you have any tips for others still figuring out what to put in their closets?

It's tough! The hardest part is sticking to the plan. Pick two to three words that you want people to think of what they describe your style. When you go shopping, keep those words in mind. Stick to that plan and your closet will be more wearable.

If you were an item of clothing what would you be? Why?

A peplum dress like the one I'm wearing and I'm not just saying that because it's in the collection. I generally feel that way because it's what I grew up running around barefoot in on the farm. It's girly but not overly. It hits below the hip but flares out. Think about it: it will never fit just perfectly. It's a little disheveled, like me.
