Mir fällt gerade auf, dass dieses Jahr extrem Berlin-lastig startet - aber was soll ich sagen: Das dicke B hat im Laufe der Jahre mein Herz erobert. Nach Berlin fahre ich gern auf Wochenendvisite, fürs eigene Wohnen bin ich lieber im gemütlichen Speckgürtel von Hamburg zuhause. So zieht die Hauptstadt aber nicht nur mich immer wieder an, auch Brautpaare aus der ganzen Welt heiraten dort: die heutige Destination Wedding in Berlin dokumentierte Juliana Socher von Chrononauts Photography für Ev und Andrew aus Irland.

Die beiden organisierten ihre Berliner Hochzeit von Dublin aus, dabei planten sie bewusst eine nach irischen Maßstäben unkonventionelle Hochzeit. So entschieden sie auch am Hochzeitstag spontan, sich doch vor der Trauzeremonie zu sehen - der extrem nervöse Bräutigam brauchte von seiner Liebsten eine Umarmung und gegenseitige Versicherung, dass ihr Tag großartig werden würde.

Gemeinsam mit ihren Trauzeugen erledigte das Brautpaar alles selbst: Auf dem Weg vom Amano Hotel zur Location wurden die Blumen abgeholt, vor Ort im The Grand mit vorhandenen Vasen und Büchern aus der Bibliothek dekoriert und arrangiert. Weil aber alle doch recht viel zu tun hatten, verlegten sie ihr Getting-ready einfach direkt in die Location.

Dank ihres Mode-Studiums entwarf Ev ihr grandioses Brautkleid selbst - ein echtes Highlight!

Ihre Hochzeitstorte hatten sie drei Tage zuvor bei Cakes Berlin bestellt, als Trauredner gewannen sie den irischen Autoren Julian Gough. „An utterly hilarious and lovely genius", wie ihn das Brautpaar beschreibt. „He is an Irish novelist living in Berlin, that we found online and boldly asked would he do the honour. He had never done anything like that before, but he admired the bold and unusual request and said yes. When we met with him and his wife for a quick chat we ended up spending hours together, we got on so well and he was great - everyone was asking about him after the ceremony."

Vor der Zeremonie ließ das Brautpaar ihren Gästen bereits Champagner und Bier servieren - für den Vater der Braut musste es natürlich ein Guiness sein, klar. Für irische (und sicher auch deutsche) Hochzeiten ist eher ungewöhnlich, bereits vor dem Sektempfang anzustoßen, aber Ev und Andrew wollten bereits hier auf ihre ganz eigene Vision und Planung ihres Tages hinweisen - und natürlich ihre Party einläuten. Apropos Party: DJ Danny Russell sorgte am Abend für den passenden Sound.

Which was your favourite moment of your wedding day?
Ev: „Not sure if we've spoken about this ourselves yet. For me it was the lead up on the day, the anticipation, calming my future husband down ...it was knowing that everything would be fine, even if the day itself turned out to be a disaster. I think it was the realisation that we were finally doing this and it would be us against the world that gave me an overwhelming feeling of happiness.

Andrew: „Definitely agree with Ev above, but if I had to pick one single moment, it was seeing Ev for the first time coming down the aisle looking stunning whilst my best friends played one of my favourite songs - ‚Terrible Love' by The National. I was incredibly nervous right up until that point, and then the nerves just fell away. I think I'd describe it is a triumphant moment..."

Do you have any planning advice for future wedding couples?
„Plan well in advance. Do as much of it yourself as you can, we were happy to save money on trivial things that we could put toward the more important stuff ...like the free bar. Pinterest is great for ideas but don't get wrapped up in the cheesy/romance stuff. Listen to each other and do what most represents both of you. Keep it as small as possible - for us that meant 90 people. Stay up as late as possible, make the night last forever."
