Tuesday Tutorial: Bold Brows

Tuesday Tutorial: Bold Brows

Some of our biggest beauty inspirations have made bold brows their calling card (thank you, Miss Hepburn!). And with summer’s natural, carefree beauty soon to be overshadowed by fall’s bolder trends, now is the time to get on board with a strong brow. Call it the Cara Delevinge effect, but take-notice eyebrows have quickly become the new “it” accessory of the season. Our pros will show you how to wear the look.

Professional makeup artist Elle Leary set out to prove that even those with peaches-n-cream complexions can join in on the fun.

Start with a swipe of brow gel to hold everything in place. Lancôme Modéle Sourcils is one of our favorite brow gels. Using an eyebrow pencil, make three tick marks that you will use as your guide when filling in. We love Anastasia Brow Wiz and Maybelline Eye Studio Master Shape Brow Pencil. Connect the dots with pencil. Keep this first layer light; you’re just finding the shape. For the fair-skinned blondes, like our model Ilana, Leary recommends using ashy colors that have a yellow or green base on the brow. Fill in the brow with shadow and a strong, stiff brush. In general, the front of the eyebrow should be little more square, but still natural. You want the most intensity concentrated at the arch. From there, sweep the color down and out. bold eyebrows

Those with darker coloring can go even bolder. LA-based makeup artist Elyse Reneau used a gel formula and started at the bottom, where it is most important to have a crisp line. After filling in the brows with an angled brush and MAC Fluidline in Dipdown, Reneau used Giorgio Armani Maestro Eraser Concealer along the bottom edge to finish the look.
