When you think about it, it's kinda amazing how versatile plaid is as a pattern. Depending upon the colors and presentation plaid can be preppy, rustic, autumnal, cheerful, traditional, elegant, or even Christmasey. We love this bold pattern, so we are so excited to see plaid back in a big way.

Start off your matrimonial love affair with plaid by wearing it at your autumn engagement session (above). It'll set a cozy, romantic mood for your rustic wedding save-the-dates.

While you'd have to be living under a rock to not know that floral robes are the current hot trend in morning couture for bridesmaids, we are crazy about this bridal party in warm flannel shirts! Not only is it cute for the photos, but they will wear this on-trend staple for months.

Groomsmen don't have to be left out of the fun. Transform them into dashing gentlemen with wool bow ties and matching vests (below).

Share the trend with your guests by placing colorful blankets on the outdoor seating at your fall ceremony or reception. They'll love getting all snuggly around the fire with one of these (below) and a warm mug of cider.

As we mentioned earlier, plaid can adapt to just about any theme. This charming wedding icon (above) is a plaid heart with two axes for a rustic reception. Complete with plaid tablecloth and gingham-lidded jam, it all blends together beautifully.

However, plaid can also make a vintage theme sing. Search out those prep school classic thermoses and picnic baskets to create cool tablescapes (below).

Need a plaid that is a tad more refined for your elegant, traditional affair? Pair a charcoal tartan plaid in luxurious wools with deep eggplant napkins and bronze-tinged accents to create a very chic reception.

The easiest way to incorporate plaid on your wedding cake is probably to request a simple white cake wrapped in plaid ribbon. But if you want to go totally glam with your plaid, find an extra luxe cake to fit your theme. We love this winter sweater-inspired cake below complete with gold antler toppers for a wedding at a lodge. And if you are a true fashionista at heart, then for you there is no greater plaid than Burberry's signature (below, right).

For a stately, but modern, plaid wedding invitation, find a design in neutrals or rich, saturated earth tones. To make it a little more modern, find a pattern that plays with scale, such as this close-up plaid below.

Mustard yellow and cobalt is such a lovely color combo for fall. Why not use a plaid envelope lining for your autumn event? This option below is great for more modern, lively weddings, that aren't sticking to a classic fall palette.
