Beautiful Greek Wedding (With Gorgeous Styling Ideas)

Beautiful Greek Wedding (With Gorgeous Styling Ideas)

via

We're heading back to Greece again this week, for yet another beautiful wedding on the outskirts of Athens.

Mersina & Stelios' are today's gorgeous bride and groom, a couple from Greek island, Lesvos and Cyprus respectively. Despite coming from islands in the same part of the world, it took a chance meeting in the U.S. to bring them together.

After getting engaged in spectacular Santorini, it was only fitting to return to Mersina's native Aegean, this time to the mainland, for their elegant, romantic and personalised wedding.

Captured by the amazing George Pahountis and beautifully styled by White Ribbon Boutique Events, Mersina & Stelios followed their Greek Orthodox ceremony, with an outdoor reception overlooking the sea at Island Art & Taste.

With a real focus on the little details, the couple and their planners pulled out all the stops, with cool cocktails, cigars for the gents, pashminas for the ladies, and traditional sugared-almond wedding favours.

From pretty tables and unique place settings, to thoughtful accessories and elegant flowers - not to mention the gorgeous attire too (check out the Saville Row suit and Victoria Kyriakides wedding dress!) - you might want to get your 'Pin It' button ready, this wedding is positively brimming with ideas...

Our Love Story

Stelios is from Cyprus and I am from a small island in Greece, Lesvos. It took travelling across the Atlantic and across different states to find each other. He had been living in London and was temporarily studying in Boston for his Masters, while I was living in Connecticut. We met Thanksgiving-Eve while he was in my town with a classmate, who also happened to be my friend. The connection was instant, and we decided to give it a go, even though there were so many odds against us. He won me over when he sent me flowers and a message saying that he would love to see me again. The next two years were spent by us driving back and forth each weekend to and from Connecticut and Boston. By the time of his graduation, Stelios had convinced me to move back to London with him. The engagement happened during a surprise weekend trip to Santorini. I should have been clued in by all the smiles we received from the staff at our hotel Kirini! Stelios had planned out everything perfectly with them. He proposed after an amazing private dinner with a view of the caldera, the most magical setting.

The Setting

We chose our venue Island Art & Taste, South of Athens, because loved the privacy and view of the Aegean that felt like we were in a private villa on a Cycladic island.

The Inspiration

Our theme and style was rustic and we used mostly neutral colors like grey and beige combined with a few touches of pink.

The Ceremony

The ceremony was a traditional Greek Orthodox.

The Photography

We chose both our photographer and our videographer as they make you feel unique, they are story tellers and through their work, they can catch and portray the important moments and emotions in way that is true to the couple.

The First Dance

Following a heartfelt speech by the groom, we danced our first song Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran

The Refreshments

We had a buffet meal with many different live food stations like a pasta, carving and fish stand where food was prepared in front of guests. Our signature cocktails were, Le Fizz, Bohemian, Caipirinha and a take on a Mojito.

The Decor & Details

Our wedding favors were traditional hand knitted pouches containing Jordan almonds which is the traditional favor given our in weddings in Greece and wrapped with a evil eye charm for good luck. We also offered the male guests Cuban cigars while the ladies chose from a variety of silk pashminas to keep warm during th evening.

The Flowers

We mostly used white flowers including hydrangea and lycianthus for the bridal bouquet and some garden roses in pink. For the buttonholes we uses white lycianthus with some pink astilbe in order to incorporate the pink color in a subtle way.

Favourite Moments

One of the best moments were when the groom surprised the bride with a show of fireworks right after the cutting of the cake!

Isn't it chic? I just adore the mini cocktail flags and cool cigar bar - such fun touches. And did you spot those super cute flower girls too?

Thanks so much to George Pahountis, White Ribbon Boutique Events and of course, Mersina & Stelios for sharing their gorgeous Greek wedding with us.
